Job summary

Cytiva in Pune is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to lead electrical, instrumentation, and automation design and lifecycle management for biopharma systems. You will ensure compliance with GMP and international standards while delivering robust, scalable solutions on-site.

The role requires strong expertise in PLC/DCS/SCADA platforms (Siemens, Emerson) and software like TIA Portal, WinCC, PCS7, and DeltaV, with up to 40% travel for project execution and customer support.

Qualifications

• BE Instrumentation/Electrical/ETC/CS or equivalent.
• A higher degree would be an advantage.
• 10+ years post-qualification experience in Automation or similar position.
• Experience in the biopharmaceutical market is an added advantage.
• Factory test work and/or site work experience.

Responsibilities

• Act as SME for proposal development, project estimation, solution architecture, and execution for systems like chromatography, filtration, and single-use platforms.
• Prepare and review automation architectures, IO lists, instrument indexes, and wiring diagrams.
• Showcase expertise in PLC/DCS/SCADA platforms (Siemens, Emerson) with TIA Portal, WinCC, PCS7, DeltaV.
• Lead software design, configuration, development, testing, validation, and commissioning per GAMP 5, ERES, 21 CFR Part 11, and GMP.
• Generate and review automation documentation, change controls, and validation deliverables.
• Drive FAT, SAT, startup, testing, and customer acceptance activities for projects.
• Identify technical risks and support lifecycle management and cybersecurity considerations.

The Senior Automation Engineer encompasses leading the work of Electrical (15%), Instrumentation (20%) and Automation (65%) and is responsible for executing the design, development, implementation, validation, commissioning, and lifecycle management of automation, instrumentation, and electrical solutions for Cytiva. Acting as a technical expert, the role requires a deep understanding of customer requirements, URS, P&IDs, process control philosophies, international standards, and regulatory compliance requirements to deliver robust, compliant, and customer-focused solutions. This position is part of the Custom Engineering organization located in Pune and will be an on-site role. At Cytiva, our vision is, to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.

What you’ll do

• Act as SME for technical proposal development, project estimation, solution architecture development, detailed engineering, and execution activities for systems such as chromatography, filtration, TFF, Single-Use Mixing platforms etc.
• Responsibilities include preparation and review of automation architectures, IO Lists, Instrument Indexes, instrument configuration and calibration documentation, loop diagrams, cable schedules, instrument hookup drawings, control panel specifications, component selection, and verification of wiring and GA drawings.
• Showcase expertise in PLC/DCS/SCADA platforms like Siemens, Emerson etc, with working knowledge of TIA Portal, WinCC, PCS7, DeltaV and other Similar systems.
• The engineer will act as SME of software design, configuration, development, testing, debugging, optimization, validation, and commissioning activities while ensuring compliance with GAMP 5, ERES, 21 CFR Part 11, S88, ISA, IEC, GMP, and other applicable standards.
• Responsibilities also include generation and review of automation documentation, change controls, and validation-related deliverables.
• Drive FAT, SAT, startup, troubleshooting, training, and customer acceptance activities related to EIA for projects while ensuring the projects and Products are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
• The engineer will proactively identify technical risks, develop mitigation plans, and support product lifecycle management, standardization initiatives, cybersecurity considerations, and obsolescence planning.
• Mentoring junior engineers, conducting technical reviews, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborating with customers, suppliers, project managers, and global engineering teams to deliver innovative and scalable solutions.

Who you are

• BE Instrumentation/Electrical/ETC/Computer Science or equivalent.
• A higher degree or secondary degree in a related subject would be an advantage.
• Experience of project engineering / project management of equipment used in Biopharmaceutical manufacturing with relevant experience and knowledge to perform commissioning support on a filtration, separation, and purification system/equipment in the biopharmaceutical industry.
• A minimum of 10+ years post qualification experience in Automation or similar position.
• Experience within the biopharmaceutical market is added advantage.
• Factory test work and/or site work experience.

Travel Requirements:

The position requires willingness to travel up to 40% for project execution, inspections, FAT/SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support activities.
