About the role

The purpose of this position is to support the development, implementation, maintenance, and assurance of global security and emergency management (S&EM) arrangements for Woodside Energy.

The S&EM Senior Adviser is responsible for strengthening company Security & Emergency Management (S&EM) capabilities across the organisation, with a focus on global threat intelligence and all-hazards monitoring, incident detection and escalation, crisis and emergency management support, travel risk management, and executive security coordination. The role provides specialist analysis of complex security and emergency events, supports incident response and recovery activities, and drives continuous improvement in the organisation's detection, response and resilience capabilities. Effective stakeholder engagement and communication are critical to ensuring timely awareness, decision-making and risk mitigation.

The position supports compliance with applicable legislative and regulatory requirements and builds strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to effectively manage security and emergency risks, while safeguarding personnel, assets, information and organisational reputation. Acting as a focal point and contract representative for intelligence monitoring and capability service providers, the role also coordinates with contractors and business stakeholders to maintain and enhance a robust, fit-for-purpose, global S&EM capability.

This position is not a Cyber Defence role and is not responsible for the operation, monitoring or management of cyber security controls, cyber incidents or Cyber Defence Centre (CDC) activities. However, the role works closely with the CDC and other technical stakeholders to ensure effective information sharing, situational awareness and coordinated risk management where cyber threats may have impacts on personnel safety, physical security, business operations, corporate reputation or crisis and emergency management arrangements. The position supports the integration of cyber-related risk intelligence into broader S&EM processes, ensuring a coordinated all-hazards approach to prevention, preparedness, response and recovery activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • All Hazards Incident Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Oversee the monitoring and reporting of global incidents and threats (All Hazards)
  • Manage global S&EM subscriptions, products, and capabilities related to incident monitoring and response
  • Security Threat and Intelligence Management:
  • Lead the management of global security threat intelligence, including activism-related threats.
  • Oversee subscriptions and products related to threat intelligence
  • Intelligence Monitoring and Capability:
  • Oversee global Communication Centre capabilities, for incident notification and escalation
  • Report on incidents & threats to relevant business risk owners
  • Executive Security Coordination:
  • Conduct risk assessments, planning, and monitoring for executive security
  • Manage journey management deliverables, coordinating with contractors where relevant
  • Oversee the management of the online Threat Vulnerability Program
  • Travel Safety and Support:
  • Manage travel safety contract, including ensuring traveller support, conformity, assurance, and reporting.
  • Events Security:
  • Conduct security risk assessments and threat monitoring requests for events, preparing Activity Risk Summaries (ARS) and reporting live threats to risk owners.
  • Security and Emergency Management (S&EM):
  • Lead verification, assurance, and reporting activities related to S&EM.
Skills & Experience
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in an S&EM type role (global security operations and or incident response) within the private or public sector, including leadership positions.
  • Strong technical knowledge of S&EM detection and response tools and familiarity with adversary tactics.
  • Proven experience in high-pressure incident response scenarios and major incident management (MIM) processes.
  • Recognised subject matter expertise in S&EM and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and influence personnel on security or Crisis & Emergency Management matters.
  • Experience managing global S&EM risks and safeguarding personnel and business interests.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and foster a high-performance, values-based culture.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of briefing senior leaders and mentoring junior staff.
  • Experience with executive protection and risk management for senior personnel.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement operational security strategies, including 'Security in Design' principles.
  • Capacity to engage effectively with business units on security and intelligence matters.
  • Experience in critical incident & Crisis management and business continuity planning.
  • Established networks in military, security, intelligence, or law enforcement sectors, within Australia and internationally.
  • Experience conducting security risk assessments and developing plans in line with legislation.
