Qualifications

• Expert-level React.js and Next.js with deep rendering knowledge including SSR/ISR
• Strong TypeScript typing for scalable codebases
• Experience with state management at scale (Zustand/Redux/React Query)
• REST API integration and asynchronous data flows
• Deep understanding of frontend performance metrics and optimisations
• Experience with testing frameworks (Jest/Playwright/Cypress)
• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD, and collaborative workflows
• Ability to apply AI-native thinking to frontend decisions and patterns

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer (SDE-3) to lead the design and delivery of world-class user experiences across Pepper's product suite. This is not a purely execution role — you will shape frontend architecture, establish engineering standards, and bring an AI-native lens to how interfaces get built. You will own the frontend end to end, mentor engineers, and partner closely with product and design to ship experiences that are fast, accessible, and intelligent.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and lead the development of scalable, performant frontend systems using React and Next.js


• Define frontend engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across the team


• Build and ship AI-powered UI features — conversational interfaces, agent-driven workflows, real-time streaming interactions — as first-class product experiences


• Partner with product and design to translate complex requirements into clean, intuitive interfaces


• Own performance, accessibility, and reliability across the frontend stack


• Lead code reviews, technical design discussions, and frontend architecture decisions


• Mentor SDE-1 and SDE-2 engineers, raising the bar on frontend craft and AI-native thinking


• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, rendering issues, and UX gaps proactively.

Must-Have Skills

• Expert-level React.js and Next.js, deep understanding of rendering models, SSR, ISR, and app architecture


• TypeScript — strong typing, maintainable abstractions, scalable codebases


• State management patterns at scale (Zustand, Redux, React Query, or equivalent)


• REST API integration and experience working with async data flows


• Deep understanding of frontend performance, Core Web Vitals, lazy loading, bundle optimisation


• Experience with testing frameworks, Jest, Playwright, Cypress or equivalent


• Git, CI/CD, and collaborative development workflows


• AI-native thinking, default instinct to consider LLMs, streaming, and agentic patterns in product decisions.

Strongly Preferred

• Experience building AI-powered frontend experiences, streaming LLM outputs, chat interfaces, agent step visualisation, tool-call feedback loops


• Familiarity with design systems and component library ownership


• Exposure to WebSockets, SSE, or real-time data in production


• Prior experience in a tech or SaaS product company at scale.
