Job summary

FOXO is seeking a backend engineer in Bengaluru to build and maintain scalable APIs used by real users. You will own from database design to deployment, ensure robust, testable code, and collaborate closely with frontend engineers using React/Next.js.

The role requires 3–5 years of backend experience, strong Python fundamentals, and expertise in FastAPI and PostgreSQL. Knowledge of health data handling is a plus for responsible data practices.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of backend engineering experience building APIs used by real users.
• Strong Python fundamentals and clean, testable code.
• Experience with FastAPI or similar async framework and understanding of runtime async behavior.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
• REST API design with versioning and endpoint consumption by other engineers.
• Frontend literacy a plus—React or Next.js familiarity for a small, fast-moving team.
• For fullstack candidates: Python/FastAPI with Next.js/React, TypeScript habits, and data-heavy interfaces.
• Across profiles: writing pragmatic tests and owning features from design to deployment; handling sensitive health data responsibly.

• 3–5 years of backend engineering experience building APIs that real users depend on, including handling production issues when things break
• Strong Python fundamentals and a habit of writing clean, testable code
• FastAPI or similar async framework experience with a real understanding of async behavior at runtime
• Strong PostgreSQL skills across schema design, indexing, query optimization, and debugging slow queries
• REST API design experience including versioning, change management, and designing endpoints other engineers consume
• Frontend literacy is a plus — especially React or Next.js familiarity that helps in a small, fast-moving team
• For fullstack candidates: production-level comfort across Python/FastAPI and Next.js/React, strong TypeScript habits, and experience building internal tools or data-heavy interfaces
