Bounteous in Gurugram, India, is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable Scala-based services and APIs.

You will leverage Java and JavaScript/TypeScript to build full‑stack or mixed‑technology components, delivering core e‑commerce features and ensuring interoperability.

Also, you’ll design for high throughput, latency optimization, and fault tolerance during peak retail events, and collaborate with product, frontend, and QA in an Agile team.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering with a strong focus on Scala (3-4 years must-have).
• Proficiency in Scala and functional programming; JVM experience with Java/JS/TS.
• Experience with microservices, Kafka, and relational/NoSQL databases.
• Exposure to the E-commerce domain and collaboration in an Agile environment.

Role & responsibilities

• Backend Engineering & Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and high-performance backend services and APIs primarily using Scala (3-4 years of hands‑on experience required).


• System Integration & Architecture: Leverage Java and JavaScript/TypeScript knowledge to build full-stack or mixed-technology components, ensuring seamless interoperability across JVM-based ecosystems and web interfaces.


• E-Commerce Feature Delivery: Implement core e‑commerce functionalities such as product catalogs, cart and checkout workflows, inventory management, and promotional pricing engines.


• High-Throughput & Scalability Optimization: Architect systems capable of handling high-volume traffic spikes, optimizing latency, and ensuring fault‑tolerance during peak retail events.


• Collaboration & Code Quality: Participate in code reviews, write comprehensive unit and integration tests, and collaborate closely with product managers, frontend developers, and QA engineers in an Agile environment.

Preferred candidate profile

• Experience: 7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong, mandatory focus on Scala development (3-4 years must-have).
