Job description

Overview

Role Purpose: Develop and maintain robust, upgrade-safe extensions and services for SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud using ABAP Cloud principles, RAP, CDS, and Fiori elements. Ensure clean-core development while maintaining SaaS agility and performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clean-Core Development

• Develop ABAP Cloud-compliant code using released APIs and whitelisted interfaces.

• Create CDS views with annotations, OData services, and RAP Business Objects (draft handling, determinations, validations, EML).

• Build Fiori element UIs with metadata-driven annotations and implement custom logic through BAdIs and enhancement spots.

1. Modernization & Enablement

• Refactor legacy code to HANA-optimized patterns (SQL, AMDP where applicable).

• Wrap older logic with released APIs and suggest de-customization opportunities.

1. Quality & Lifecycle Management

• Develop and run unit tests (ABAP Unit) and performance analysis using SAT/ST12/SQL Monitor.

• Conduct static code checks (ATC, ABAP Test Cockpit) and manage exemptions.

• Manage transport and release using CTS+/gCTS; collaborate on CI/CD pipeline integration.

1. Integration & Data Management

• Expose or consume services for CPI/APIM integration; handle IDocs/BAPIs as required.

• Manage data migration or extraction using released APIs, ODP, and CDS-based methods.

1. Documentation & Support

• Prepare technical specifications, API documentation, and operational handover notes.

• Provide hypercare and production support as needed.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5–8+ years of experience in ABAP development, including S/4HANA.

• Strong knowledge of CDS, RAP, OData, and BAdIs.

• Hands-on experience with SQL on HANA and performance tuning.

• Proficiency with ADT (Eclipse), ATC, transport management, and Fiori elements.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with gCTS, Git, and CI/CD processes.

• Exposure to SAP BTP ABAP Environment (Steampunk).

• Understanding of event-driven integration and BOPF legacy.

• Knowledge of security concepts (authorization checks, CDS DCL) and S/4 Output Management.

Deliverables

• RAP services, CDS models, and Fiori element applications.

• Enhancement implementations and technical documentation.

• Unit/ATC test reports and transport logs.

Performance Indicators

• % of ATC-clean code.

• Defect density and performance SLAs (response time).
