Job description

The Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing safety, health, and environment practices in the SHE department of a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This requires B-Tech or B.Sc qualification with 2–8 years of experience, knowledge of industrial safety, chemical handling, risk assessment, emergency preparedness, safety audits, and statutory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant safety practices across production, warehouse, engineering, QC, and utility areas.
• Conduct safety inspections, workplace audits, risk assessments, and hazard identification.
• Ensure proper use of PPE, safety permits, fire safety systems, and emergency equipment.
• Support implementation of EHS policies, SOPs, safety training, and compliance programs.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and prepare reports.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness, mock drills, fire drills, and evacuation exercises.
• Monitor chemical handling, solvent storage, spill control, waste management, and hazardous operations.
• Ensure compliance with statutory safety, health, environment, and factory requirements.
• Maintain safety records, audit reports, training registers, and incident documentation.
• Coordinate with production, engineering, QA, warehouse, and administration teams for safety improvements.
• Support permit-to-work systems for hot work, height work, confined space, and maintenance jobs.
• Train employees and contract workers on safety procedures and emergency response.
• Report safety violations and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Support environmental monitoring, waste disposal, and pollution control activities.
• Promote a strong safety culture across the manufacturing site.
