Job summary

Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad invites applications for a Research Associate to support faculty in cutting‑edge information systems research. The role emphasizes NLP, large‑scale analytics, and data science with a view toward pursuing a PhD at leading schools.

You will collaborate with researchers, manage high‑frequency datasets, review literature, and help design NLP workflows using Python, R, and SQL. Experience with unstructured text is valued.

Qualifications

• Masters or higher in data mining or machine learning; or equivalently, bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/ Statistics/ Mathematics with at least 2 years’ experience with Machine Learning, NLP, Document Classification, Topic Modelling, and Information Extraction with a proven track record of applying them to real problems and real data
• Experience working with big data systems, concepts, and tools.
• Strong team player with cross‑functional skills
• Experience with noisy and/or unstructured textual data
• Strong coding proficiency in Python, R and SQL
• Knowledge of various text mining algorithms and their use‑cases as well as text pre‑processing and normalization techniques. The candidate should be able to design, implement, and evaluate NLP and LLM‑based workflows.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Exposure to economic problems and econometric techniques desirable
• Motivation to learn and strong work ethic

Responsibilities

• The candidate will assist the faculty in their ongoing research work which includes reviewing and assimilating key research ideas in an area, literature reviews, acquiring and analysing large high‑frequency data sets and interpreting and presenting such analyses.
• The position is best suited for a candidate with an interest in pursuing a PhD in leading business schools worldwide.
• The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of core NLP tasks, like tagging, syntactic and semantic parsing, named entity recognition, user intent understanding algorithms etc.
• Implementation experience and programming skills will also be given weight.
• The position presupposes a graduate degree or equivalent in Natural Language Processing or in Computer Science with a clearly NLP‑based thesis.
