Aditya Birla Money Ltd. (ABML) is primarily a broking company dealing in equity, commodity, and currency. With a workforce of approximately 800 spread across around 40 locations, ABML serves more than 300,000 customers. Commodity operations are handled through its 100% subsidiary, Aditya Birla Commodities Broking Ltd. ABML is one of the leading securities trading companies in the country, operating in a fragmented equity broking business with a daily turnover close to ₹3,000 crore and a market share near 1 %. The company operates in a highly regulated environment with regulators such as SEBI, RBI, AMFI, FMC, IRDA, and others, and is also closely monitored by agencies like NSE, BSE, NCDX, MCX, NSDL, and CDSL. Competition comes from major National Broking houses like ICICI Securities, HDFC Securities, Angel Broking, MOFSL, and various local broking outfits.

The research team at the fundamental side evaluates securities based on growth prospects and the attractiveness of the underlying business. They analyze financials, competitive advantages, management quality, and the competitive environment, among other factors. Research follows the principle that while the market price of an asset may deviate from its fair value in the short term due to extraneous factors such as market trends or investor sentiments, it tends to move toward its intrinsic value over the long term.

Key responsibilities of the Senior Research Analyst are:

  • Build large databases by extracting and collating appropriate datasets from data vendors such as Bloomberg, Reuters, Cline, etc.
  • Analyze large and complex macro and micro databases and create well‑structured reports.
  • Disseminate research reports and outputs to investors/clients to aid investment decisions.
  • Provide research support and inputs for consumption by the investment team in building portfolios and preparing advisory reports for clients.
  • Timely work on and generate investment ideas to capture maximum gains.

Primary challenges faced are:

  • Find investible ideas based on rigorous analysis of data sourced from quality databases available in the market, with varying risk–return profiles and competitive advantages across companies within a sector.
  • Stay abreast of the latest updates in a constantly evolving environment to make nimble investment decisions.
  • Clearly communicate investment thesis for a company or sector, highlighting the investment case and arguments to enable informed decisions by the investment team and investors.
  • Make relative investment calls when absolute opportunities exceed portfolio capacity.

Critical skillsets include strong financial analysis and equity research capabilities. The role involves a minor level of client interaction, so good interpersonal skills are desirable.
