Job summary

Sigma Earth in India seeks a driven Design Engineer for solar PV and BESS projects. You will design utility-scale, commercial, and microgrid systems using PVsyst, PVcase, and AutoCAD, and collaborate with EPC partners to ensure compliant, high‑quality delivery.

You’ll optimize layouts, run energy yield analyses, and support permitting and interconnection processes, leveraging NREL SAM and related tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in solar PV and BESS design across utility-scale, commercial, or microgrid projects.
• Proficiency with PVsyst, PVcase, AutoCAD, and NREL SAM.
• Understanding of US/NA EPC practices and vendor ecosystems.
• Strong knowledge of PV components, layouts, and industry standards.
• Familiarity with BESS design principles and related safety concepts.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and site layouts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

Responsibilities

• Design and model utility-scale, commercial, and microgrid solar PV, wind, and BESS systems using tools such as PVsyst, PVcase, and AutoCAD.
• Optimize plant layouts, perform shading studies, run energy yield simulations, and evaluate system losses.
• Use NREL SAM and similar financial modelling tools to assess project economics, forecast performance, and conduct cost-benefit analysis.
• Carry out site evaluations, interpret topographical maps, and analyze meteorological datasets such as TMY, DNI, and GHI.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including BOMs, single-line schematics, and as-built drawings.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and interconnection teams to ensure integrated and constructible system designs.
• Support permitting processes, interconnection applications, and technical inputs for bids and proposals.
• Develop optimization models for BESS augmentation strategies and system performance enhancement.
• Perform vendor-specific round-trip efficiency (RTE) calculations and ensure target energy output from BESS systems.
• Collaborate with EPC partners, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure design accuracy, compliance, and quality delivery.
• Stay updated with relevant electrical, renewable, and safety standards such as NEC, IEC, UL, and IEEE.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in solar PV and BESS system design across utility-scale, commercial, or microgrid projects.
• Proficiency in PVsyst, PVcase, AutoCAD, and NREL SAM.
• Strong understanding of North American renewable energy markets, EPC practices, and vendor ecosystems.
• Solid knowledge of PV system components, design principles, layout optimization, and industry standards.
• Strong expertise in BESS systems, including design principles, US fire safety codes, and operational requirements.
• Understanding of battery chemistries such as LFP, NMC, NCA, and flow batteries.
• Ability to develop and interpret engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, and site layouts.
• Good knowledge of BOS components, racking systems, and PV technologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in hybrid renewable energy systems combining PV and energy storage.
• Familiarity with site constraints, civil engineering interfaces, interconnection processes, and permitting requirements.
• Exposure to additional modeling tools such as Helioscope or PlantPredict is an advantage.
• EIT, PE certification, or NABCEP credential is desirable but not mandatory.
• Experience in technical writing, research, or publication is a plus.
