Overview

Remote Chemistry Researcher (PhD) - 34441

Are you passionate about solving challenging chemistry problems?

Turing is looking for PhD-level researchers in Chemistry to test the reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs). You’ll create Chemistry problems, analyze model responses, and identify gaps in logic or understanding. The goal is to measure how well these models handle abstract thinking and structured problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Create chemistry problems and review how the AI solves them.
• Share insights on how well the AI understands complex reasoning and logical steps.
• Develop and work on example problems such as:
• A coal gasifier problem to calculate equilibrium concentration at 1000 K.
• A reactor model for a plug flow reactor to estimate maximum temperature with known coolant conditions.
• Provide clear, constructive feedback with examples.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or have completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Strong written communication, especially in remote settings.
• Able to provide clear, constructive feedback with examples.
• Comfortable working independently.
• Stable computer and internet access.

Time Commitment & Contract Details

• Commitments Required: at least 4 hours per day and minimum 20 hours per week with 4 hours overlap with PST. Options: 20, 30, or 40 hours/week.
• Engagement type: Contractor assignment / freelancer (no medical/paid leave).
• Duration of contract: 1 month; next-week start date (expected).
• Selection Process: Task-based assessment for shortlisted candidates, followed by a contract offer with defined timelines and workload.
