Overview

Remote Chemistry Researcher (PhD) - 34441

Are you passionate about solving challenging chemistry problems? Turing is looking for PhD-level researchers in Chemistry to test the reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs). You’ll create chemistry problems, analyze model responses, and identify gaps in logic or understanding. The goal is to measure how well these models handle abstract thinking and structured problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Create chemistry problems and review how AI solves them, detailing insights on reasoning and logical steps.
• Assess model performance on abstract thinking and structured problem-solving.
• Develop and solve example problems such as:
• A coal gasifier problem at 1000 K to calculate equilibrium concentrations.
• A plug flow reactor model to estimate maximum temperature with known conditions.
• Maintain strong research and analytical skills; provide clear, constructive feedback with examples; communicate effectively in writing in remote settings; work independently.

• Currently pursuing or completed Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field.

Time Commitment & Contract Details

• Commitments: at least 4 hours per day and minimum 20 hours per week with 4 hours overlap with PST. Options: 20, 30, or 40 hours per week.

• Duration: 1 month; expected start date next week.
• Selection Process: Task-based assessment for shortlisted candidates, followed by a contract offer with defined timelines and workload.
