Remote Chemistry Researcher (PhD) - 34441

We are seeking PhD-level researchers in Chemistry to test the reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs). You will create chemistry problems, analyze model responses, and identify gaps in logic or understanding. The goal is to measure how well these models handle abstract thinking and structured problem-solving.

Note: This position is open only to candidates who have completed or are currently pursuing a Ph.D.; applications that do not meet this criterion will not be considered.

Responsibilities

• Create chemistry problems and review how the AI solves them, sharing insights on the model’s understanding of complex reasoning and logical steps.
• Develop problems such as: a coal gasifier operating at high temperature with a feed of steam and air to produce synthesis gas; calculate equilibrium concentrations in the output stream at 1000 K.
• Develop reactor models for gas-phase reactions in plug flow reactors to estimate maximum temperatures under known operating and coolant conditions, assuming constant external coolant temperature.
• Provide clear, constructive feedback with concrete examples.
• Demonstrate strong written communication in a remote setting and the ability to work independently.
• Ensure stable computer and internet access to support remote work.

Time Commitment & Contract Details

• Engagement type: Contractor assignment / freelancer (no medical/paid leave).
• Duration of contract: 1 month (expected start date next week).
• Selection Process: Task-based assessment for shortlisted candidates, followed by a contract offer with defined timelines and workload.
