Job Description:
The Red Hat Performance and Scale team is seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join our Chaos Engineering initiative in Bangalore, India.
In this role, you’ll be part of a team dedicated to ensuring that Red Hat OpenShift remains resilient and performant even under failure conditions.
We’re looking for someone who is motivated, curious, and passionate about system reliability, performance, scalability, and automation. Strong problem-solving skills and experience with Linux technologies and open source development are highly valued.
As part of a globally distributed team, you’ll collaborate with various Red Hat engineering groups and engage with open source communities around the world.
Your Responsibilities:
- Design and execute chaos, performance, and scalability tests across various components and features of the OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)
- Simulate real-world failure scenarios (e.g., network faults, infrastructure outages, storage failures) to assess system reliability and resilience
- Conduct data-driven analysis and visualization to identify regressions and recommend performance improvements
- Contribute to capacity planning guidance ensuring OCP remains performant under stress or failure
- Develop tools and automation for fault injection, load generation, and release CI workflows
- Integrate AI-driven approaches to expand test coverage and efficiency
- Assist customers with debugging and resolving issues related to virtualization performance, scalability, and reliability
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex resilience and performance challenges
- Triage and debug partner/customer-reported issues, providing timely, robust solutions
- Document and publish insights through internal reports, blog posts, presentations, and official documentation
- Represent your work at internal and external conferences, sharing findings and best practices
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Demonstrated interest or experience in chaos engineering, performance testing, or systems engineering
- Strong knowledge of Linux system administration
- Proficiency in scripting and programming using Bash, Python, Go, or Ansible
- Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or IBM Cloud
- Familiarity with collaborative development tools and version control systems like Git
- Hands‑on experience with container technologies such as Docker or Podman
- Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Airflow, Prow, or similar
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift
- Strong presentation and public speaking abilities
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana
- Interest or experience in Go programming
- Interest or experience in applying AI to testing or system analysis
