Job summary

First Meridian Business Services seeks a Design Engineer Rear Axle for commercial vehicles. You will drive design from concept through 3D/2D modelling, DFMEA, validation planning and drawing release, working closely with manufacturing, suppliers, quality and customers.

You will design rear axle assemblies, create GD&T-compliant drawings, update DFMEA, develop DVP and ensure producibility (DFM/DFA) while coordinating with cross-functional teams across the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Experience in automotive design, development and releasing

Responsibilities

• Design and develop rear axle assemblies and components (housing, differential, gears, shafts, hubs and brakes interface) using UG NX
• Create and release 3D models and 2D drawings with GD&T and material specs
• Prepare and update DFMEA and follow structured design processes
• Prepare the Design Verification Plan (DVP) and follow up on validation and test results
• Select materials and processes (casting, forging, rubber, plastic) per design and cost targets
• Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure design can be produced (DFM/DFA) and resolve issues
• Carry out design changes, ECN/ECR handling and drawing release
• Apply problem-solving methods to address field or validation issues
• Present design status and proposals to internal teams, management and customers; negotiate with suppliers
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Manufacturing, Purchase, Testing, Sales) throughout the product lifecycle

Role & responsibilities

The Design Engineer Rear Axle is responsible for the design, development and release of rear axle assemblies and components for commercial vehicles. The role covers the full design cycle, from concept and 3D/2D modelling to DFMEA, validation planning and drawing release. It involves working with manufacturing, suppliers, quality and customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop rear axle assemblies and components (such as housing, differential, gears, shafts, hubs and brakes interface) using UG NX
• Create and release 3D models and 2D drawings with proper GD&T, tolerances and material specifications
• Prepare and update DFMEA and follow structured design processes
• Prepare the Design Verification Plan (DVP) and follow up on validation and test results
• Select suitable materials and processes (casting, forging, rubber, plastic) in line with design requirements and cost targets
• Work with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure the design can be produced (DFM/DFA) and resolve manufacturing issues
• Carry out design changes, ECN/ECR handling and drawing release
• Use structured problem-solving methods (such as 8D, 5-Why and root cause analysis) to address field or validation issues
• Present design status and technical proposals to internal teams, management and customers, and negotiate technical and commercial points with suppliers and stakeholders
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Manufacturing, Purchase, Testing, Sales) throughout the product lifecycle

Required Skills and Competencies

Must have

• Hands-on experience in UG NX (3D and 2D solid modelling and drafting)
• Good experience in automotive design, development and releasing
• Basic knowledge of automobile engineering (commercial vehicles)
• Working knowledge of DFMEA, DVP and the design process
• Good presentation, communication and negotiation skills
