Job Description
The Radiographer (Sonographer) is responsible for performing ultrasound and diagnostic imaging examinations, operating sonography equipment, obtaining high-quality images, assisting radiologists in diagnosis, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and specialized ultrasound examinations as prescribed.
- Verify patient identity, clinical history, and examination requirements.
- Explain ultrasound procedures clearly to patients before examination.
- Position patients appropriately to obtain accurate diagnostic images.
- Operate ultrasound equipment safely and efficiently.
- Obtain high-quality images and appropriate anatomical measurements.
- Perform abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, small-parts, and other authorized ultrasound studies.
- Assist with Doppler and other specialized sonography examinations.
- Review images for technical adequacy before submission for interpretation.
- Assist radiologists during image-guided procedures when required.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and comfort throughout examinations.
- Follow infection-control and equipment-cleaning procedures.
- Perform routine equipment checks and report technical problems promptly.
- Maintain accurate examination records and imaging documentation.
- Ensure proper storage and transfer of digital images and patient information.
- Coordinate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other diagnostic staff.
- Follow departmental SOPs, patient-safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Participate in quality-control and accreditation activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Radiology Manager or Head of Imaging.
