Job summary

ABB in Bengaluru seeks an experienced engineer to support strategic technology direction within its R&D team. You will contribute ideas for identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative technology and software solutions, while assisting the R&D group in executing tasks with structured technical rigor.

You will work on mechanical design for engineered-to-order projects, review BOM accuracy, and ensure designs meet IS/IEC/NEMA/IEEE standards.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (must)
• 3–6 years of experience in R&D/Engineering
• Experience with electrical rotating machines design
• Exposure to electrical rotating machines in R&D/Engineering
• Solid proficiency in electrical motor design concepts (induction motor, testing, insulation, electromagnetics)
• FEA knowledge is an advantage

Responsibilities

• Utilize 2D and 3D modeling to create mechanical designs for engineered-to-order projects.
• Review BOM accuracy and work with project engineers to achieve correct component ordering.
• Ensure designs meet company, industry, and customer technical standards (IS, IEC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, etc.).
• Perform tolerance and mechanical stress analysis as necessary.
• Support mechanical designs for New Product Introductions.

This Position reports to:

R & D Hub Manager, India

Your role and responsibilities:

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the strategic technology direction by contributing your own ideas for identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative technology, software and solutions. Each day, you will assist the Research and Development (R&D) team by executing your assigned tasks and using technical knowledge in a structured way. You will also showcase your expertise by staying abreast of the state of the art and actively applying this knowledge.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Utilize 2D and 3D modeling to create special mechanical designs in engineered to order projects.
• Review mechanical bill of material accuracy and work with project engineers to achieve desired mechanical component ordering.
• Ensure all designs work to meet company, industry, and customer’s technical standards/requirements (i.e., IS. IEC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, customer project specifications, etc.).
• Perform tolerance and mechanical stress analysis as necessary.
• Support mechanical designs for New Product Introductions.
• Address manufacturing concerns or questions related to mechanical designs and/or bill of materials.
• Provide feedback and solutions to project managers and project engineers to meet customer needs.

Qualifications for the role:

• B.E or B. Tech in Electrical Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3-6 years of experience in R&D / Engineering.
• Must have worked with electrical rotating machines design.
• Exposure in electrical rotating machines with R&D/Engineering.
• Solid technical proficiency in Electrical motor design, e.g. Induction motor, testing and validation testing, Insulation system, electromagnetics, etc. FEA will be added advantage
• A solution-focused approach and strong written and spoken communication skills
