ROLE SUMMARY
The Purchase Manager will own end-to-end procurement of raw materials and components, build and manage the vendor base, and plan purchases in line with production requirements. The role includes managing the purchase team and reporting on procurement performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Procure raw materials and components (electronics, LED components, metals, plastics, packaging) at competitive cost, quality and delivery timelines.
- Identify, evaluate and onboard new vendors; reduce dependency on single-source suppliers.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, lead times and contracts with vendors; track cost savings.
- Prepare procurement plans based on production schedules, sales forecasts and stock levels to avoid shortages and excess inventory.
- Raise and track purchase requisitions, purchase orders and deliveries in the ERP system.
- Monitor vendor performance on quality, delivery and pricing; manage rejections and follow up on corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Production, Stores, QC, R&D and Accounts on material requirements, inspection and vendor payments.
- Maintain purchase MIS and analysis in Excel (price trends, vendor comparison, spend analysis) and present to management.
- Lead, train and review the work of the purchase team.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate in any stream; B.E./B.Tech or MBA (Materials / Supply Chain) preferred.
- Proven experience in raw material procurement in a manufacturing environment (lighting / electrical / electronics industry preferred).
- Strong skills in vendor development and vendor negotiation.
- Sound knowledge of procurement planning and inventory control.
- Working knowledge of ERP software SAP or similar.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and data analysis.
- Experience handling and guiding a purchase team.
- Good communication, decision-making and follow-up skills.
