Job summary

Birlasoft is seeking a Sr. Project Manager to lead IT projects in a dynamic environment in India. You will manage multiple projects from initiation through closure, coordinating cross-functional teams, sponsors, and vendors.

You will build and maintain schedules in MS Project/Project Server, track costs, and ensure adherence to PMO processes while delivering value within scope, time, and budget constraints.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years of project management experience delivering IT projects with budgets.
• 3–5+ years using MS Project; building or using Project Server.
• Experience delivering IT projects from start to finish.
• Familiar with MS Project scheduling engine logic and constraints.
• Experience managing vendors and executing SOWs.

Responsibilities

• Lead IT projects from initiation to closure, including software, mobile/web, integrations, automation, and infrastructure.
• Manage multiple projects concurrently with cross-functional teams and sponsors.
• Maintain project schedule in MS Project/Project Server and track progress.
• Prepare periodic project status reports and forecasts; manage variances and funding requests.

Sr. Project Manager

The below highlights key accountabilities for this role. It is not fully inclusive of all possible tasks that may be expected to be performed by this role.

Project Management

• Leads IT projects from start to finish. Projects may consist of one or a combination of implementation or customizations of commercial off-the-shelf insurance software applications; mobile/web technologies, system integrations; software upgrades, Intelligent Automation (RPA) and infrastructure (hardware).
• Manages three (3) or more projects simultaneously, depending on project complexity, duration and lifecycle phase. Average duration of most projects is 6-8 months.
• Manages a project team of matrixed resources. Resolves challenges presented by resource and schedule availability in matrixed organizations (project team members, including the PM, are rarely 100% dedicated to a single project).
• Builds a project schedule in MS Project/Project Server that is effort-driven and auto-scheduled.
• Maintains and reconciles the project financial forecast in the project financial accounting tool; investigates and resolves variances between forecast and actual project costs. Proactively releases excess project funds if not needed or requests additional funding when necessary due to requested baseline changes.
• Accurately follows all documented PPM processes, procedures and templates.
• Prepares twice-monthly project status reports for each assigned project.
• Meets regularly with project team(s), business sponsors/stakeholders, portfolio manager(s), and other key stakeholders.

Project Administration

• Assists the PMO in updating project plan data points, including manually inputting actual hours charged against projects.
• Performs "schedule reviews" to ensure project plans are adhering to PMO standards and practices

Core Competencies

• 5 to 7+ years of current project management experience delivering IT projects with a minimum budget of $150K.
• 3 to 5+ years of current experience using MS Project; either to build stand alone project plans or in Project Server (collaborative environment) - Project Server experience preferred.
• Has successfully delivered IT projects from start to finish.
• Familiar with or has used effort-driven project planning techniques in MS Project.
• Familiar with MS Project's schedule engine logic (how MS Project calculates the duration, effort, and resources assigned to a task)
• Demonstrates high-levels of capability in all project management competencies, including: planning, executing, monitoring and controlling of IT projects.
• Experience managing vendors, requesting and executing SOWs.
• Demonstrates a personal sense of urgency to complete day-to-day work. Must drive for results from self and project team members. Must know when to push back on perceived limitations and when to be flexible and accept the limitation.
