Job summary

ABB Energy Industries, based in Bengaluru, seeks an experienced engineer to lead multiple disciplines in process control and safety systems for energy projects. The role operates in a hybrid work model and requires strong leadership, design authority and cross-functional collaboration.

You will guide project activities from design through commissioning, align with safety standards (IEC 61508/61511), and engage with customers and suppliers to ensure successful delivery.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of design, engineering, testing, commissioning experience in control and safety systems for oil, gas, refining or petrochemical sectors.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and coordinating with customers, suppliers and contractors.
• TUV Functional Safety Certification (or equivalent) and knowledge of safety lifecycle.
• Familiarity with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards and safety system design.
• Proficiency in safety system design, application programming, hardware design, and HMI graphics.
• Experience with safety system inspections, FAT/SAT, loop checks, start-up and commissioning.
• Strong communication, leadership abilities and willingness to travel to customer sites.

• Serve as design authority for a discipline and complete related engineering tasks.
• Collaborate on project installation, commissioning and site activities, addressing issues and providing solutions.

• Assess risks and opportunities, and strategize mitigation for engineering programs.
• Engage with customers, contractors and suppliers to coordinate work.
• Oversee subcontract creation and management alongside other functions.

This role is contributing to the Process Automation business for Energy Industries division based in Bangalore, India.

Your Role And Responsibilities (Mandatory)

You will have the opportunity to act as the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments. Each day, you will ensure the activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by acting as a design authority for a particular engineering discipline and completing the corresponding engineering assignments.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• As a technical lead for all engineering disciplines - evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform tasks for conventional projects.
• Execute assignments using established solutions. May act as a design authority and completes engineering assignments.
• Collaborates on project installation, commissioning and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions to correct engineering errors. Provides technical support to commissioning and start-up activities.
• Assists in creating proposals for projects.
• Supports Contract Manager in issuing claims.
• Creates work plans and cost estimates in one’s area of responsibility.
• Evaluates risks and opportunities, strategizes mitigation of one’s engineering projects/programs.
• Interact with customers, contractors, suppliers.
• Oversee the creation of subcontracts and manage subcontractors jointly with other involved functions.

Qualifications For The Role (Mandatory)

• Minimum 10 years of design, engineering, testing, commissioning and consulting experience of Control and Safety Systems in oil & gas production / refining / petrochemical / pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience in managing cross-functional teams.
• TUV Functional Safety Engineer Certification (or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of the Safety Lifecycle and participation in functional safety assessments.
• Working knowledge of IEC61508 and IEC61511
• Proficiency in Safety System design, application programming, hardware design, and HMI graphics development.
• Experience in safety system hardware inspection, FAT, SAT, loop checks, start-up and commissioning.
• Must have good communication & leadership capabilities.
• Must have strong team-building skills and Willingness to travel to customer sites.
