Job summary

Balasore Alloys Limited seeks a skilled engineer to manage GA drawings, plant layouts and SLDs, while leading planning with WBS, baselines and look-ahead schedules. You will perform energy yield simulations for solar design and coordinate automation interfaces for PLC/RTU systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review and update GA drawings, plant layouts, SLDs and as-built drawings with coordination.
• Develop WBS, baseline schedule, resource-loaded plan and look-ahead schedules; track progress.
• Perform energy yield simulation, loss analysis and orientation studies for solar design.
• Understand plant automation, SCADA concepts, PLC/RTU interfaces and IO mappings.
• Monitor schedule, milestones, vendor approvals, procurement status and commissioning.
• Coordinate across electrical, civil, structural, mechanical and site teams.
• Support BOQ/MTO preparation, validate quantities and track design changes.
• Prepare technical reports, progress dashboards and management presentations.
• Provide site engineering clarifications and oversee pre-commissioning activities.
• Identify design and execution improvements for land use, energy and cost.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• AutoCAD / Engineering Drawings: Prepare, review and update GA drawings, plant layouts, SLDs, cable routing, equipment layouts, civil/electrical interfaces and as-built drawings. Maintain the drawing register, revision control and coordination with consultants and vendors.


• Primavera P6 / Planning: Develop WBS, baseline schedule, resource-loaded plan, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning timelines, critical path and look-ahead schedules. Track actual progress, slippages and recovery plans; prepare weekly and monthly MIS.


• PVsyst / Solar Design: Perform energy yield simulation, loss analysis, PR assessment, shading assessment, module and inverter configuration, DC/AC ratio optimisation, orientation and tilt studies and sensitivity analysis.


• Automation / Controls: Understand plant automation, SCADA concepts, PLC/RTU interfaces, data acquisition, alarms, communication architecture and integration requirements. Coordinate with automation vendors on signal lists, IO mapping and control philosophy.


• Project Controls: Monitor schedule, milestones, dependencies, engineering deliverables, vendor drawing approvals, procurement status, site readiness and commissioning activities. Identify risks and prepare mitigation actions.


• Technical Coordination: Coordinate across electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation, procurement and site teams. Conduct design reviews and resolve interface issues before execution.


• Quantity & BOQ Support: Support BOQ/MTO preparation from drawings, validate quantities, assist cost estimation and track design changes affecting material quantities and cost.


• Documentation & MIS: Prepare technical reports, design basis notes, progress dashboards, issue trackers, MOMs, engineering status reports and management presentations.


• Site Support: Provide engineering clarifications during construction, review deviations, support installation quality checks, pre-commissioning and punch-point closure.


• Optimisation: Identify design, schedule and execution improvements for land utilisation, energy generation, timeline, quality and cost.

Mandatory Skills

• AutoCAD (Advanced): layouts, SLDs, GA drawings; ability to modify drawings during a practical test


• Primavera P6 (Advanced): baseline schedule, WBS, critical path, progress updates and recovery scheduling


• PVsyst (Advanced): simulation reports, loss analysis, PR, DC/AC ratio and generation assumptions


• Automation / SCADA / PLC concepts (Intermediate to Advanced): architecture, IO, signal lists and integration


• MS Excel / Project MIS (Advanced): progress tracking, dashboards, BOQ and analysis


• Communication & Coordination (Advanced): vendor, site and consultant coordination; management reporting

Preferred Skills

• Solar PV engineering: modules, inverters, strings, transformers, power evacuation and plant design


• EPC project execution: engineering, procurement and construction interface exposure

Candidate Profile

• Hands-on user of AutoCAD, Primavera P6 and PVsyst; certificate-only exposure will not be sufficient


• Comfortable reading electrical SLDs, layouts, equipment GA drawings and multidisciplinary interfaces


• Prior experience in solar PV, renewable energy, power plant or EPC project environments strongly preferred


• Able to convert project scope into a detailed WBS and executable schedule


• Understands the full project lifecycle from engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning and handover


• Strong analytical, documentation, coordination and problem-solving capability


• Willing to be based at site in Odisha and to visit project sites and vendors as required
