Job summary

Swan Corp is seeking a Project Engineer Materials in Pipavav, Gujarat, to drive material planning and procurement for shipbuilding projects. The role requires coordination with design, planning, procurement, stores, and vendors to maintain cost, quality, and delivery standards.

You will manage BOMs, track material status, and ensure timely delivery while optimizing inventory and reducing costs. Strong ERP/Excel skills and shipbuilding exposure are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/production/marine engineering or equivalent.
  • 8–13 years of experience in project materials, procurement coordination, or project execution.
  • Experience in shipbuilding/materials is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project-wise material requirements based on engineering drawings, BOMs, and project schedules.
  • Coordinate with Design, Planning, Procurement, QA/QC, Production, and Stores to ensure timely material availability.
  • Monitor procurement status, manufacturing progress, inspections, dispatch, and delivery of critical materials and equipment.
  • Track long-lead items and identify potential material shortages that could impact project schedules.
  • Maintain project material registers, procurement trackers, and material status reports.
  • Coordinate with vendors and expediting teams to ensure adherence to delivery schedules.
  • Monitor receipt, storage, issuance, and reconciliation of project materials with Stores.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, class requirements, and quality standards for procured materials.
  • Support material inspection activities and coordinate with QA/QC for vendor inspections.
  • Review material deviations, shortages, substitutions, and engineering change requests impacting procurement.
  • Participate in project review meetings and present material procurement status, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate logistics and transportation for project materials to ensure timely delivery to the shipyard.
  • Ensure proper documentation of purchase orders, inspection reports, material certificates, and vendor documentation.
  • Generate periodic MIS reports on procurement progress, inventory status, material consumption, and project material forecasts.
  • Identify opportunities for material optimization, inventory reduction, and cost savings.

About the Role

We are looking for a Project Engineer Materials to support project execution by ensuring timely planning, procurement coordination, material tracking, and availability of materials for shipbuilding projects. The role requires close coordination with Project Management, Planning, Procurement, Stores, Design, Production, and Vendors to ensure uninterrupted project execution while maintaining cost, quality, and schedule compliance.

Educational Qualification

Experience
  • 8-13 years of experience in project materials, procurement coordination, production planning, or project execution within the Shipbuilding, Ship Repair, Offshore, Marine, or Heavy Engineering industry.
  • Experience in handling materials for new shipbuilding projects is preferred.
Preferred Technical Knowledge
  • Shipbuilding materials, steel, piping, outfitting, machinery, and electrical equipment.
  • Reading engineering drawings, material specifications, and BOMs.
  • ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/IFS or equivalent).
  • MS Excel (Advanced), MS Project, Power BI (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Class Society requirements will be an added advantage.
