Job summary

Navin Fluorine International is seeking a Shift In-Charge to manage all manufacturing activities on the assigned shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations. You will supervise operators, coordinate with maintenance, monitor process performance, and drive production targets while upholding quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities include leading a multiskill team, executing daily plans, training staff, and maintaining rigorous documentation.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a manufacturing shift in chemical/pharma environments.
• Strong understanding of SOPs, LOTO, and incident reporting.
• Ability to supervise operators and contract workforce with discipline.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise plant operations during the assigned shift.
• Monitor critical process parameters and maintain within limits.
• Coordinate across units, manage changeovers, and meet targets.
• Provide guidance to operators and conduct on‑the‑job training.
• Ensure safety culture, conduct toolbox talks, and enforce SOPs.
• Coordinate with maintenance for breakdowns and preventive tasks.
• Monitor energy use and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
• Act as first line leader during emergencies and document actions.
• Maintain shift logs and prepare daily operation reports.

Job description

Role Purpose: The Shift In-Charge is responsible for managing and controlling all manufacturing activities during the assigned shift to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations. The role involves supervising operators, coordinating with maintenance and utility teams, monitoring process performance, achieving production targets, ensuring product quality, and maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Shift Operations

• Lead and supervise plant operations during the assigned shift.
• Ensure smooth operation of process plants, utilities, and support systems.
• Monitor production activities to achieve shift production targets.
• Ensure adherence to approved operating procedures and work instructions.
• Coordinate production activities across multiple operating units.
• Manage change over activities during the assigned shift.

B. Process Monitoring & Control

• Review key operating parameters and production data.
• Ensure critical parameters remain within specified limits.
• Monitor:
• Temperature
• Pressure
• Flow
• Level
• pH
• Utility consumption
• Take corrective actions to prevent process deviations and operational upsets.
• Ensure strict adherence to plan standard operating procedures (SOPs)

C. Team Supervision

• Supervise:
• DCS Operators
• Field Operators
• Plant Technicians
• Contract Workforce
• Allocate manpower based on operational requirements.
• Provide operational guidance and on-the-job training.
• Maintain discipline and productivity within the shift team.

D. Planning & Execution

• Execute production plans as per daily schedules.
• Ensure optimum utilization of equipment and manpower.
• Coordinate batch/continuous manufacturing activities where applicable.
• Monitor production efficiencies and equipment performance.
• Ensure timely completion of manufacturing campaigns.

E. Safety

• Promote a strong safety culture across shift operations.
• Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Ensure compliance with:
• Work Permit System
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
• SOPs
• Process Safety Requirements
• Monitor critical safety systems and emergency equipment.
• Participate in incident reporting and investigations.

F. Quality Compliance

• Ensure products are manufactured according to approved specifications.
• Coordinate with Quality Control and Quality Assurance teams.
• Verify batch records and process documentation.
• Ensure compliance with IMS, Responsible Care, or other applicable standards.
• Minimize quality deviations and batch failures.

G. Maintenance Coordination

• Coordinate with maintenance teams for breakdown and preventive maintenance activities.
• Ensure safe equipment isolation before maintenance work.
• Support troubleshooting during process and equipment failures.
• Minimize downtime through effective coordination.

H. Energy Management & Cost Improvement

• Monitor consumption of:
• Steam
• Cooling Water
• Chilled Water
• Nitrogen
• Compressed Air
• Power
• Identify opportunities for resource conservation and cost reduction.
• Analyse energy data, identify abnormal trends, and initiate corrective actions.
• Support implementation of EnPIs, baselines, and improvement projects.
• Coordinate with operations/maintenance for energy efficiency improvements.

I. Emergency Response

• Act as the first line leader during emergencies.
• Coordinate response activities for:
• Fire incidents
• Chemical leaks
• Process upsets
• Power failures
• Equipment breakdowns
• Ensure implementation of emergency response procedures.
• Coordinate evacuation and incident control actions when required.

J. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain detailed shift logs and production reports.
• Record deviations, incidents, downtime, and corrective actions.
• Conduct effective shift handovers.
• Prepare daily operational reports for management review.
• Ensure accurate documentation and record retention.
