Role Overview

As a Production Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and managing detailed production plans to ensure on‑time delivery, efficient resource utilization, and smooth coordination between design, procurement, and shop floor activities. This role requires a deep understanding of custom machinery manufacturing and end‑to‑end production workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain detailed production plans, schedules, and work orders based on sales orders and engineering inputs.
• Coordinate closely with design, procurement, stores, quality, and shop floor teams to align production timelines.
• Ensure material availability by monitoring inventory levels and following up on procurement of critical components.
• Monitor job progress on the shop floor; identify bottlenecks and take corrective actions to maintain deadlines.
• Track production KPIs such as machine utilization, OEE, lead times, and adherence to schedule.
• Maintain detailed records of job status, manpower allocation, and work center planning.
• Optimize manufacturing sequences for assemblies, fabrication, machining, and finishing.
• Work with QA/QC teams to minimize rework and ensure right-first-time production.
• Support monthly production reviews, capacity planning, and resource forecasting.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives for reducing delays, improving throughput, and increasing efficiency.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.
• 2–5 years of hands‑on experience in production planning and control (PPC) in a custom manufacturing environment.
• Good knowledge of machine shop, fabrication, welding, assembly, and surface finishing processes.
• Familiarity with BOM structures, routings, and work orders in ERP systems (SAP, Tally, or similar).
• Proficiency in MS Excel, project tracking tools (like MS Project), and Gantt charts.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills to manage multiple production jobs simultaneously.
• Effective communicator and team player with a proactive, problem‑solving approach.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict delivery timelines.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in production planning for equipment like mixers, dryers, granulators, or process vessels.
• Exposure to ISO or cGMP‑compliant production environments.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and shop floor efficiency tools (5S, Kaizen, Kanban, etc.).
• Experience with job costing and estimating man‑hours per operation.
