Job description

Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. with some flexibility to have alternative work hours/schedule. 45 hours per week. May require off hours availability on off hours including weekends/holiday work on occasion depending on business/site needs. He will be part of the site emergency response team.

Job Purpose

The purpose of the position is to oversee overall operations and production functions, ensuring the agreed target of production is met within budgeted cost, accepted quality, and highest safety compliance while maintaining good housekeeping and basic asset conditions.

The position shall also be responsible for raw material planning, production planning aligning with sales, and the supply chain department and external stakeholders to secure raw material within time, including steam, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, etc., while maintaining excellent relationships.

The position will ensure people training and development, career planning of staff, regular coaching and guidance for best practices.

Direct and guide the operations team to achieve objectives, managing within targeted costs and lowest possible consumption ratio, in a sustainable manner aligned with the Site Manager.

Additionally, the position shall be responsible for safety, health and welfare of the department, including workplace hazards, machinery operation, and emergency response measures.

Key Result Areas
Production Management
  • Overall responsible for meeting production target within agreed cost and quality with high safety standards, housekeeping, and asset basic conditions.
  • Accountable to follow departmental safety and safe work permit procedures for all routine or non-routine work.
  • Implement necessary measures to ensure field safety and quality of manufactured products.
  • Active part of ISO management system to improve performance and meet customer expectations.
  • Maintain good relationships with peer departments, own team, and upper management.
  • Prepare and upgrade SOPs for operation control and standardization.
  • Build a strong team, excel in people planning, coaching, training, and development.
  • Maximize production by improving plant availability and operational optimization.
  • Minimize raw material consumption ratio through efficient plant operation.
  • Reduce energy consumption (steam and power) through efficient operation.
  • Minimize hazardous wastewater (high TOC water) to reduce effluent/wastewater discharge cost and move toward sustainable operation.
  • Optimize variable cost through efficient and effective plant operation and achieving zero off-grade products.
Planning (Production & Raw Material)
  • Efficiently plan raw material, aligning with supply chain management for formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, lime, steam, and miscellaneous acids.
  • Plan finished goods inventory, aligning with sales department and SCM.
  • Coordinate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Asset Management and Plant Availability
  • Maintain equipment in basic condition to perform designed capacity, efficiency, and quality.
  • Ensure periodic cleaning and inspection of equipment such as storage tanks, vessels, hoppers, SILOs, etc., with help of maintenance team and fix identified issues.
  • Coordinate operator basic care on equipment including inspections, cleaning, observation, and engineering department for repair and replacement.
Budgeting and Cost Control
  • Prepare annual production budget for raw material, inspections & cleaning, consumable replacement, etc.
  • Guide plant production/operation team to maximize production at minimum cost.
  • Responsible for preparing efficient budget and cost control within approved budget.
People Training and Skill Development
  • Prepare skill matrix or chart for department staff against requirement and conduct gap analysis.
  • Schedule training calendar with HR based on gap analysis.
  • Develop training mechanism including workshops, classroom, and on-job trainings.
  • Act as mentor to ensure the team receives adequate training to enhance knowledge and capability.
  • Create a positive atmosphere by providing continuous feedback, support and guidance based on performance and set goals.
  • Ensure team imbibes the organization values and culture.
Vendor Development
  • Assess vendors including factory visits, collecting market feedback, witnessing, assessing financial capabilities and services.
  • Prepare vendor information database in prescribed format and evaluate technically by comparing with existing approved vendors and SWOT analyze.
  • Define procurement specifications, performance parameters, performance guarantee and test procedures.
Safety & Environmental Norms, Legal Compliance and Housekeeping
  • Adhere to applicable safety and environmental norms in plant operation and maintenance.
  • Identify environmental and statutory compliance and prepare action plan to fix and implement.
Education and Experience

Education: Full‑time Graduate Chemical Engineer from a reputed institution.

Experience:

  • More than 20 years of experience in continuous process plant as Production Manager, preferably in a chemical or refinery plant.
  • More than 15 years’ experience in operations and/or maintenance of Trimethylolpropane, Pentaerythritol, Formaldehyde and powerhouse preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Working knowledge of field operations. SAP PM experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in leading and motivating teams in a production environment. A personal style that instills a sense of responsibility among peers and direct reports.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop goals and actions to improve performance.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to implement process improvement from concept through project completion (project management skills).
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents including PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Insight into production process. Ability to identify issues before they become major problems.
  • Requires indoor/outdoor work up to 50% in a manufacturing environment exposed to all weather elements, heat, cold, dirt, dust, vibrations, odors, loud noises and chemicals.
  • Routinely uses office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners and other typical office equipment. Requires use of electronic mail and ERP systems.
  • Routinely in contact with others (face‑to‑face, by telephone, computer or otherwise). May include conflict situations.
Physical Requirements
  • Perform in an active office environment, including paperwork, computer, handling office equipment/filed activities.
  • Fitness essential to perform tasks such as sit/stand/​walk/​move/​bend/​stoop/​kneel/crouch/​climb or balance, and maneuver stairs, ladders and machinery.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Mobility required to access all areas on site and navigate/operate in close quarters, small rooms, narrow aisles and passageways.
  • Ability to use all communication channels (read/write/speak/hear).
  • Vision sufficient to perform tasks with or without correction.
  • Comply and pass site regulations for PPE and clearances.
Authority

Financial authority according to Perstorp rules.

Reporting
  • Reports to Site‑Head and works with peers across departments including Engineering, Technical Manager, SCM, HSEQ and Procurement.
