Job summary

Loopworm seeks a capable Shift In-charge to lead day-to-day operations at its Karnataka plant. You will own the shift, drive output, manage process parameters, ensure safety, and supervise contract staff across conditioning, extraction, and packing.

You’ll maintain batch traceability, uphold GMP and hygiene standards, and coordinate with Quality, Stores, and Maintenance teams. The role requires hands-on expeller/extruder experience and fluency in Kannada/Hindi.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/Diploma in Production or Mechanical Engineering with 3–5 years' experience, OR ITI with 3+ years in a process manufacturing plant.
  • Background in oil extraction, feed, food, or agro-processing preferred.
  • Hands-on knowledge of screw press expellers and extruders.
  • Comfortable running a rotating shift independently, without a manager on site.
  • Proven track record managing and motivating unskilled/contract labour.
  • Speaks Kannada and Hindi fluently for floor communication.
  • Treats safety as non-negotiable, not a checkbox.

Responsibilities

  • Run the shift as in-charge: accountable for production output, process parameters, quality, housekeeping, safety and discipline for the full duration of the shift.
  • Convert the daily production plan into a shift plan batch sequence, machine allocation and manpower deployment across conditioning, extraction, filtration, milling, packing and loading.
  • Complete a structured written handover with the incoming executive during the overlap period: batches in progress, machine and utility status, pending maintenance jobs, deviations, material balance and open issues. Both executives sign the handover.
  • Follow the defined escalation matrix for breakdowns, quality deviations, safety incidents and manpower shortfalls outside general shift hours.
  • Operate the extraction plant and hold operating parameters within specification.
  • Carry out and supervise all production activities
  • Track the plant's KPIs
  • Maintain full batch traceability
  • Supervise loading and dispatch activity when required.
  • Ensure in-process checks are done at the defined frequency and coordinate with the quality team on sampling and hold/release decisions.
  • Maintain plant log sheets, batch records and downtime logs accurately and in real time no back-filled entries.
  • Uphold GMP, hygiene, housekeeping and food/feed safety documentation standards across the shift.
  • Assist in preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems to reduce downtime.
  • Carry out first-line troubleshooting on equipment; restore the line quickly and safely.
  • Log every stoppage with duration and reason code; raise spares and consumables indents through stores in advance.
  • Analyse root causes of repeat failures and implement effective preventive measures.
  • Supervise and deploy the contract workforce on shift — attendance, work allocation, output, discipline and on-the-job training on SOPs.
  • Enforce PPE compliance, safe isolation of equipment during cleaning and maintenance, and safe practice around steam, hot surfaces and rotating equipment.
  • Report near misses, incidents and unsafe conditions immediately, without exception.

Job description

Purpose of the Role

Loopworm turns silkworm pupae into LoopMeal and LoopOil high-value products at the heart of a new kind of protein industry. As a Shift In-charge, you're not a support hand; for eight-plus hours at a time, you run the plant. You call the shots on output, quality, safety, and people. It's a role built for someone who wants ownership from day one, not someone waiting to be told what to do.

Shift Ownership & Handover

  • Supervise loading and dispatch activity when required.
Quality, Documentation & Compliance
  • Ensure in-process checks are done at the defined frequency and coordinate with the quality team on sampling and hold/release decisions.
  • Maintain plant log sheets, batch records and downtime logs accurately and in real time no back-filled entries.
  • Uphold GMP, hygiene, housekeeping and food/feed safety documentation standards across the shift.
Maintenance & Uptime
  • Assist in preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems to reduce downtime.
  • Carry out first-line troubleshooting on equipment; restore the line quickly and safely.
  • Log every stoppage with duration and reason code; raise spares and consumables indents through stores in advance.
  • Analyse root causes of repeat failures and implement effective preventive measures.
People & Safety
  • Supervise and deploy the contract workforce on shift — attendance, work allocation, output, discipline and on-the-job training on SOPs.
  • Enforce PPE compliance, safe isolation of equipment during cleaning and maintenance, and safe practice around steam, hot surfaces and rotating equipment.
  • Report near misses, incidents and unsafe conditions immediately, without exception.

  • Background in oil extraction, feed, food, or agro-processing preferred
  • Hands-on knowledge of screw press expellers and extruders
  • Comfortable running a rotating shift independently, without a manager on site
  • A problem-solver who can think on their feet and make calls on the floor
  • Proven track record managing and motivating unskilled/contract labour
  • Speaks Kannada and Hindi fluently for floor communication
  • Treats safety as non-negotiable, not a checkbox
Shift Structure
  • Round-the-clock coverage on a weekly rotating roster; exact timings confirmed at offer stage
  • A built-in overlap window at every changeover for a proper, documented handover
Reporting & Team
  • Reports to: Loopfactory Manager
  • Supervises: Contract workforce deployed on shift

What’s in it for you
  • Real financial security — PF, ESI/insurance, and other benefits as per company policy, so you're covered beyond just the paycheck
  • Travel taken care of — company travel policy covers you, so field/site visits don't come out of your pocket
How We Work at Loopworm
  • Freedom and responsibility — we tell you the outcome and the constraints, then get out of your way. No micromanagement. You own the result.
  • Honesty over comfort — bad news should travel fast. We'd rather hear about a problem the day it happens than a polished story a month later.
  • Numbers, not opinions — decisions are made on data; bring the arithmetic with your proposal
