About the Role:-
As a Product Development Engineer (Mechanical), you will own mechanical design and development of new products end to end - from technology research and concept selection through detailed design, prototyping, testing, and production release. This is a high-paced, 0-to-1 environment where design decisions move quickly from CAD to hardware, and you are expected to build the technical case for your choices and defend them in front of leadership.
Role & responsibilities:-
- Own hands-on mechanical product development end to end - concept, detailed design, prototyping, testing, and design freeze for production.
- Research and evaluate existing products, mechanisms, and technologies - understanding their working principles and assessing fit against specific engineering problems.
- Apply structured design-selection and reliability frameworks - FMEA, Pugh matrix, and QFD - to compare concepts and drive build vs. buy vs. adapt decisions.
- Design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA) - select processes, materials, and tolerances suited to sheet metal, machining, casting, and fabrication.
- Build and own the BOM - part selection, costing, cost-down analysis, and make vs. buy decisions with sourcing.
- Engage with suppliers and vendors - technical discussions, part sourcing, drawings, tooling, and spec finalization.
- Plan and execute testing - design validation, structural and durability testing - and take products to production‑scale quality and compliance standards.
- Write technical proposals and build presentations, and defend design decisions in front of leadership and customer stakeholders.
- Draft and refine technical requirement documents, GD&T drawings, and design validation records.
Preferred candidate profile
- B.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field, with hands‑on product development experience.
- Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks/Fusion/CATIA or similar) with solid grasp of GD&T and tolerance stack‑up.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and DFM/DFA.
- Working knowledge of BOM costing and vendor/supplier engagement.
- Exposure to FEA/CFD (Ansys/Star-CCM+) and design validation testing is a plus.
- Strong research instincts and the ability to form and defend a clear technical point of view.
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities and tight timelines. Preference will be given to candidates with hands‑on experience in student engineering build teams such as SUPRA SAE, BAJA SAE, Robocon, e-Yantra, or similar competitive projects.
