Job summary

Sigma Earth seeks an experienced Senior Process Engineer to lead treatability studies for water and industrial effluents, and to develop integrated treatment flowsheets using physical, chemical, biological, electrochemical, and thermal processes.

The role requires a PhD/M.Tech in a related field with ~10 years of total experience and 5+ years in water/wastewater treatment. Strong modeling, lab/pilot testing, and cross-functional collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• PhD or M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Industrial Chemistry, or related field.
• Around 10 years of total experience, including at least 5 years in water, wastewater, or industrial effluent treatment.
• Strong understanding of reaction engineering, separation processes, mass transfer, and water chemistry.
• Hands-on experience in laboratory experiments, pilot testing, and field-scale implementation.
• Minimum 3–5 publications in peer-reviewed journals; patents or book chapters will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead complete treatability studies for water, wastewater, and industrial effluents.
• Develop integrated treatment flow sheets based on effluent characteristics using various treatment processes.
• Conduct lab-scale and pilot-scale trials, evaluate results, and tune parameters for scale-up.
• Use process simulation tools to support design and optimization.
• Collaborate with technologists, engineers, and field teams to translate lab outcomes into pilot systems and field applications.
• Assess external technologies for suitability and potential integration.
• Support Zero Liquid Discharge and high-TDS effluent treatment initiatives.
• Prepare mass/energy balance and kinetic models to guide design decisions.
• Contribute to techno-economic studies and benchmarking for treatment technologies.
• Develop detailed engineering documents, SOPs, and technical reports.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead complete treatability studies, including sample characterization, experiment planning, process optimization, and performance validation for water, wastewater, and industrial effluents.
• Develop integrated treatment flow sheets based on effluent characteristics, using physical, chemical, biological, electrochemical, membrane, and thermal treatment processes.
• Conduct laboratory-scale and pilot-scale trials, evaluate experimental results, and fine-tune process parameters for scale-up.
• Use process simulation and modelling tools such as ASPEN Plus, HYSYS, GPS-X, or similar platforms to support process design and optimization.
• Collaborate with technologists, mechanical engineers, and field teams to convert laboratory outcomes into pilot systems and full-scale field applications.
• Assess external technologies, including proven and emerging solutions, for their suitability, uniqueness, and potential integration into treatment systems.
• Support Zero Liquid Discharge, high-TDS effluent treatment, and industrial sludge management initiatives through innovative chemical and physical treatment approaches.
• Prepare mass balance, energy balance, and kinetic models to guide design, optimization, and scale-up decisions.
• Contribute to techno-economic studies, benchmarking, cost estimation, and feasibility assessments for treatment technologies.
• Develop detailed engineering documents, SOPs, experimental records, and technical reports for internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Work with digital teams to integrate data analytics, process monitoring, and modelling improvements into treatment programs.
• Support research outputs such as publications, patents, and standardization activities from successful R&D projects.
• Provide field-level troubleshooting support for treatment failures, process optimization needs, and performance deviations at customer sites.

Qualifications

• Education: PhD or M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Industrial Chemistry, or a related field.
• Experience: Around 10 years of total experience, including at least 5 years in water, wastewater, or industrial effluent treatment.
• Strong understanding of reaction engineering, separation processes, mass transfer, and water chemistry.
• Hands‑on experience in laboratory experiments, pilot testing, and field-scale implementation.
• Familiarity with process simulation tools such as ASPEN, HYSYS, GPS-X, BioWin, or equivalent platforms.
• Minimum 3–5 publications in peer-reviewed journals; patents or book chapters will be an added advantage.
• Strong analytical, communication, and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to work with cross-functional R&D teams and manage multiple projects at the same time.
