Job summary

Shoppingate in Bengaluru seeks a Senior/Principal Software Architect to lead architecture across products. You will design highly available distributed systems, own technical roadmaps, and mentor senior engineers. You will collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable, secure cloud-native solutions.

You will guide migrations, optimize performance, and establish coding standards, observability, and DevOps practices for rapid, reliable delivery.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in senior/principal roles.
• Strong hands-on expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js.
• Proven experience architecting and scaling products used by large user bases or high transaction volumes.
• Strong knowledge of microservices, RESTful APIs, distributed systems, caching, messaging, and performance optimization.

Job description

Responsibilities:

• Architect, design, and build large-scale, highly available, and distributed systems.
• Define technical architecture, system design principles, and engineering standards across products.
• Lead the design and development of backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Own and drive architecture decisions for complex products from conception through production.
• Design systems for scalability, reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, DevOps, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead technical discussions around system design, distributed systems, APIs, databases, caching, messaging, and service architecture.
• Identify architectural bottlenecks and drive initiatives to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior engineers and engineering teams.
• Establish best practices around coding standards, design patterns, testing, observability, and engineering processes.
• Conduct architecture and code reviews and ensure high engineering quality across teams.
• Drive modernization, re-architecture, and migration initiatives where required.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that provide long-term technical and business value.
• Collaborate with leadership to define and execute the long-term technical roadmap.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience in senior/principal/staff-level roles.
• Strong hands-on expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js .
• Proven experience architecting and scaling products used by large user bases or handling high transaction volumes.
• Strong understanding of system design and distributed systems.
• Experience designing highly available, fault-tolerant, scalable, and resilient architectures.
• Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs and event-driven systems, distributed systems, caching and database optimization, message queues/streaming systems, authentication and authorization, observability and monitoring, and performance optimization.
• Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong understanding of scalability, reliability, latency, availability, and cost optimization.
• Excellent problem-solving and technical decision-making skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building high-scale consumer-facing or enterprise SaaS products.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with technologies such as Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar distributed infrastructure.
• Experience designing event-driven and asynchronous architectures.
• Experience leading large-scale technical migrations or platform modernization initiatives.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience working in fast-paced product organizations or high-growth technology companies.
