Job summary

Worley in Hyderabad is seeking a Principal Safety Engineer to lead safety and risk design for brownfield oil and gas projects. The role involves overseeing hazardous studies, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with international standards.

The ideal candidate has 17+ years in safety/risk engineering in oil & gas, offshore project experience, and a Bachelors in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering; CPEng/CFPS is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Brown field oil and gas safety & risk design experience.
• 17+ years in safety & risk engineering for oil and gas.
• Offshore project experience is required/advantageous.
• Bachelor’s in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering; CPEng/CFPS advantageous.
• Middle East experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supports adherence to engineering practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specs.
• Supports standardization of equipment specs, drawings, and templates.
• Contributes to technical knowledge and compliance with standards.
• Develops risk/safety design development across projects and studies.
• Prepares and executes hazard studies and HSE reviews as needed.

The Role

As a Principal Process Engineer with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience etc….

• Supports adherence to generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
• Supports the standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates.
• Contributes to the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful.
• Uses local/global standards to support technical excellence.
• Supports the processes for checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings.
• Ensure recognised onshore & offshore engineering practices applicable to safety & risk design are adopted.
• Development of design and operational engineering studies in the areas of risk, safety and Safety & Risk.
• Designs Safety & Risk scope of work in contract and stewards design alternative studies, as required, to optimize project cost and schedule.
• Gathering and compiling safety and environmental information.
• Prepares and assists in the execution of: Hazard Studies (HAZID- ENVID/HAZOP/LOPA); HSE Checklist and Design Basis; Design HSE Review such as Human Factors, Hazardous Area Classification, Inherent Safety, Alarm Prioritisation.
• About You
  To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following attributes:
  
• Industry Specific Experience:
  • Have engineering experience in Brown Field oil and gas related Safety & Risk Design and Engineering.
  • Must have 17+ years experience in the same or similar industry, including experience in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • Experience in the Middle East, is an advantage.
  • Working as a Safety and Risk Engineer (Technical Safety / Loss Prevention) in the Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Must have experience in offshore projects.
  • Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
  • Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering/mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)/CFPS status or undertaking the same will be an advantage.
    
• IT Skills:
  • PIPENET, PHAST, SAFETI, PHA Pro, Flaresim, Detect3D (optional), exSILentia (optional).
    
• Key areas of expertise required:
  • Active Fire Protection (Firewater demand, hydraulic analysis, P&IDs, PFDs, etc).
  • F&G layouts, C/E diagrams.
    

Other Qualifications:

• Key areas of expertise required:
  • Passive Fire Protection.
  • Datasheets and specifications, MTO.
  • Hazardous Area Classification (Schedule and Drawings).
  • Good knowledge of NFPA and International Standards for Technical Safety / Loss Prevention.
  • Consequence analysis (gas dispersion, toxic, fires, explosion, vent dispersion, flare radiation modeling).
  • Safety Critical Elements and Performance Standards.
  • Risk Register / action follow-up and close-out.
  • ALARP assessment, Bow-ties, and Cost-Benefit analysis.
  • Surge Analysis/ Transient Analysis
