Job summary

RTX India Private Limited in Bengaluru seeks a Senior Principal Engineer to lead embedded software design, development and verification for aerospace systems. You will guide teams, decompose complex requirements and drive reviews across software lifecycles.

Required is strong DO-178C knowledge and extensive experience in real-time embedded platforms, protocol drivers, and modern DevOps practices. Ethical standards and aerospace processes apply.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of industry experience in safety-critical domains, preferably aerospace.
• Aerospace or avionics software development experience; DO-178C familiarity.
• Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS or Polarion).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, integration and verification of embedded software for aerospace systems.
• Provide technical guidance and architectural direction to software teams.
• Decompose system requirements into software requirements and drive reviews.
• Mentor engineers and support CI/CD and release activities.
• Develop and maintain application software for real-time systems; design drivers.
• Develop software for CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, ARINC 429, or similar protocols.
• Perform debugging, optimization, and root cause analysis of complex issues.
• Collaborate across Systems, Verification, Hardware, Quality and Programs.

What You Will Do

• Lead the design, development, integration, and verification of embedded software for aerospace systems.
• Provide technical guidance and architectural direction to software development teams.
• Ability to decompose systems requirements to software high level requirements.
• Drive software requirements reviews, design reviews, code reviews, and technical decision‑making.
• Mentor and coach engineers on software development best practices and engineering excellence.
• Support estimation, planning, risk management, and technical problem‑solving activities.
• Develop and maintain application software for embedded and real‑time systems.
• Design and implement low‑level device drivers for peripherals and communication interfaces.
• Develop software for communication protocols such as CAN, UART, SPI, I²C, Ethernet, ARINC 429, or equivalent.
• Perform debugging, performance optimization, and root cause analysis of complex software issues.
• Conduct impact analysis and support corrective and preventive actions for field and customer issues.
• Support CI/CD pipeline implementation and maintenance.
• Integrate automated build, test, and deployment workflows.
• Develop Python scripts and tools for automation, testing, data analysis, and productivity improvements.
• Support software configuration management and release activities.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace software development processes and standards.
• Support requirements traceability, verification activities, and certification deliverables.
• Participate in software lifecycle reviews and audits.
• Collaborate with Systems, Verification, Hardware, Quality, and Program teams throughout development.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including PI Planning, Sprint Planning, Reviews, and Retrospectives.
• Support backlog grooming, feature decomposition, and effort estimation.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the software organization.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Minimum 12 years of Industry experience in safety critical domain (preferably aerospace domain), embedded Software life cycle in accordance with DO‑178 C processes.
• Aerospace or avionics software development experience.
• Knowledge of DO‑178C and certification processes.
• Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS or Polarion.
• Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent DevOps tools.
• Knowledge of software verification, regression testing, and structural coverage concepts.
• Experience with static analysis tools, and software quality processes.
• Exposure to embedded systems and board bring‑up activities.
• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science Engineering /Electronics and communication Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Information Technology.
• A strong Python programming experience.
