Job summary

Persistent Systems seeks an experienced Principal Database Refactoring & Performance Architect in India to lead modernization across Oracle 19c environments. You will optimize heavy SQL workloads, refactor PL/SQL, and drive cloud-enabled data transformation initiatives.

15 years of Oracle experience, strong performance diagnostics, and hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory and data integration are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of Oracle Database Administration, Architecture, Performance Engineering, and Modernization.
• Oracle 19c and Autonomous Database environments experience.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Principal Database Refactoring & Performance Architect with 10 to 15 years of expertise in Oracle database modernization, performance engineering, and cloud-enabled data transformation initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of Oracle 19c, advanced SQL and PL/SQL optimization, Azure-based data solutions, and enterprise-scale database architecture.

What You'll Do:

• Audit, analyze, and refactor legacy PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, functions, and triggers into modular, maintainable, and optimized database components.
• Rewrite and optimize complex SQL queries using Oracle 19c Cost-Based Optimizer (CBO) best practices.
• Transform cursor-based and row-by-row processing logic into high-performance set-based SQL using BULK COLLECT and FORALL techniques.
• Perform comprehensive database performance assessments and recommend optimization strategies.
• Design and implement structured logging, tracing, monitoring, auditing, and error-handling frameworks.
• Lead schema redesign initiatives, including normalization, denormalization, and optimization of large-scale enterprise databases.
• Develop advanced partitioning, indexing, compression, and storage strategies for Oracle 19c environments.
• Identify and eliminate technical debt, including obsolete database objects, redundant indexes, inefficient code, and unnecessary data access patterns.
• Perform deep execution plan analysis using Oracle SQL Monitor, SQLTXPLAIN, AWR, ASH, and other diagnostic tools.
• Optimize Azure-hosted applications and services interacting with Oracle databases through enhanced connection pooling, batch processing, and integration patterns.
• Design scalable data integration frameworks leveraging Azure Data Factory and cloud-native technologies.
• Improve database availability, scalability, reliability, and disaster recovery capabilities.
• Collaborate with application developers to embed database performance best practices within software development lifecycles.
• Lead database modernization and migration initiatives across cloud and hybrid environments.
• Establish database governance standards, performance benchmarks, and architectural best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to database administrators, developers, and technical teams.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• 10 to 15 years of experience in Oracle Database Administration, Architecture, Performance Engineering, and Database Modernization.
• Expert-level knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL, Advanced SQL, Query Optimization, and Database Refactoring.
• Extensive experience with Oracle Database 19c and Autonomous Database environments.
• Strong understanding of Oracle Cost-Based Optimizer (CBO), Adaptive Query Optimization, and SQL Plan Management.
• Proven expertise in execution plan analysis, performance diagnostics, and database tuning methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with BULK COLLECT, FORALL, Collection Types, Object Types, and Analytical Functions.
• Deep understanding of Oracle database internals, memory architecture, storage management, and transaction processing.
• Experience designing highly available, scalable, and resilient database architectures.
• Strong expertise in partitioning, indexing strategies, data modeling, and schema optimization.
• Experience working with Azure cloud services, Azure Data Factory, and cloud-based data integration patterns.
• Knowledge of hybrid cloud architectures and database migration strategies.
• Experience implementing monitoring, observability, logging, and performance management frameworks.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture and governance principles.
• Ability to identify and remediate technical debt within large-scale database ecosystems.
• Experience supporting mission-critical applications with demanding performance and availability requirements.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
