Infosys in Bengaluru seeks an Electrical Substation Design Engineer to deliver AIS and GIS substation design packages up to 765kV with IEC/IEEE/NESC compliance.

You will develop GA drawings, equipment elevations, grounding layouts, conduit and lighting plans, and perform grounding and cable sizing calculations using industry tools.

Collaborating with Civil, Structural, Networks, and Transmission teams, you will ensure timely delivery and quality across global projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in substation primary/physical design engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with CDEGS, ETAP, WinIGS, Mathcad, Dialux, Visual Lighting.

Job description

  • Prepare detailed engineering deliverables and primary design packages for Air Insulated (AIS) and Gas Insulated (GIS) substations ranging from 33kV to 765kV.
  • Develop engineering drawings including General Arrangement (GA) drawings, equipment elevations, erection key diagrams, conduit layouts, grounding layouts, control house layouts, lighting layouts, lightning protection layouts, and bill of material documents.
  • Perform detailed engineering calculations such as grounding analysis, lightning protection calculations, cable sizing, conduit fill calculations, and illumination studies using industry-standard software tools.
  • Carry out equipment selection and sizing activities for transformers, busbars, cables, and other substation electrical equipment to ensure technical compliance and project requirements are met.
  • Utilize engineering software such as CDEGS, ETAP, WinIGS, Mathcad, Visual Lighting, and Dialux for design development and validation activities.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including Civil, Structural, Communication Networks, and Transmission Line engineering groups to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions to address project requirements, resolve engineering challenges, and maintain project quality standards.
  • Monitor project schedules and coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of high-quality engineering deliverables.
  • Prepare electrical substation design packages that comply with client specifications as well as applicable IEC, IEEE, and NESC standards.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with global project teams and multiple office locations to ensure consistency and compliance across projects.
  • Support proposal development activities, scope definition exercises, conceptual engineering studies, and project execution planning.
  • Develop engineering cost estimates, manpower estimates, and project schedules to support business development and project planning initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to junior engineers and designers to enhance team capability and project performance.
  • Conduct quality reviews of engineering deliverables and ensure compliance with company procedures, client standards, and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, value engineering, automation, and innovation to improve design efficiency and project execution.
  • Demonstrate sound engineering judgment and problem-solving capabilities while addressing technical challenges and developing practical solutions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in substation primary/physical design engineering.
  • Strong understanding of AIS and GIS substation design principles and engineering practices.
  • Good knowledge of engineering design management processes, electrical design standards, and industry best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with software tools such as CDEGS, ETAP, WinIGS, Mathcad, Visual Lighting, and Dialux.
  • Working knowledge of NESC, IEEE, IEC, and other relevant international standards applicable to substation engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across global teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within cross-functional project teams in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on utility projects in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom will be an added advantage.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and physical design tools used in substation engineering projects is preferred.
  • Membership in professional organizations such as IEEE, IEC, IET, or CIGRE will be considered an advantage.
