Job summary

Aurionpro is seeking a Senior EHV Substation Engineer to lead planning, design, and commissioning support for EHV/HV substations (AIS and GIS) and transmission infrastructure.

You will review SLDs, layouts, protection schemes, and power system studies, coordinating with utilities, EPCs, and vendors to ensure safety, reliability, and code compliance.

The role requires about 10 years of relevant experience and ETAP certification; Chartered Engineer preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in EHV/HV substation design engineering in a consulting environment.
  • ETAP Certification and Chartered Engineer preferred.
  • Experience in transmission and substation engineering projects.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and review of EHV/HV AIS/GIS substations and transmission infrastructure.
  • Develop SLDs, layouts, equipment sizing, and busbar schemes.
  • Coordinate protection schemes, relays, and AC/DC system design.
  • Perform power system studies: load flow, short-circuit, coordination, arc flash.
  • Utilize ETAP/PSCAD/CYME/CDEGS/SKM tools for studies and modeling.
  • Design SAS, integrate SCADA/RTUs and IEC 61850 architectures.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Support bidding, engineering estimates, and client workshops.

Senior EHV Substation Engineer

The Senior EHV Substation Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, engineering, review, and technical management of EHV/HV substations, transmission infrastructure, and associated electrical systems. The role involves delivering engineering solutions for Greenfield and Brownfield substation projects, ensuring compliance with utility standards, international codes, safety requirements, and project specifications from concept through detailed design and commissioning support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering designs for EHV/HV substations AIS as well as GIS (132kV, 220kV, 400kV, 765kV and above).
  • Prepare and review:
  • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
  • Substation layouts
  • Equipment layouts
  • Sectional views
  • Bay arrangements
  • Busbar schemes
  • Earthing and lightning protection layouts
  • Evaluate AIS and GIS substation configurations.
  • Perform equipment sizing and selection studies.
Primary Engineering
  • Design and review:
  • Power transformers
  • Circuit breakers
  • Disconnectors/isolators
  • Current Transformers (CTs)
  • Voltage Transformers (VTs/CVTs)
  • Surge arresters
  • Neutral grounding systems
  • PLCC equipment
  • Develop equipment specifications and datasheets.
  • Conduct technical bid evaluations and vendor document reviews.
  • Optimize substation layouts for safety, reliability, and maintainability.
Secondary Engineering & Protection Systems
  • Develop protection and control philosophies.
  • Prepare and review:
  • Protection single-line diagrams
  • Protection schemes
  • DC system design
  • Control schematics
  • Interlocking logic diagrams
  • Cable schedules
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Coordinate protection settings and relay applications.
  • Review SCADA and automation system integration.
Power System Studies

Perform and review electrical studies including:

  • Earthing studies
  • Lightning protection studies
  • Insulation coordination studies
  • Reactive power compensation assessments

Substation Automation & Digital Systems
  • Design and review SAS (Substation Automation Systems).
  • Integrate:

  • Support implementation of IEC 61850 architecture.
  • Review communication network designs and cybersecurity considerations.
Consultancy & Technical Leadership
  • Lead engineering activities for transmission and substation projects.
  • Coordinate with utilities, EPC contractors, OEMs, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, and design reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support proposal preparation and engineering estimates.
Project Execution & Commissioning Support
  • Provide engineering support during construction and installation phases.
  • Resolve site engineering queries and technical deviations.
  • Review commissioning procedures and test plans.
  • Witness:
  • Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
  • Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
  • Protection relay testing
  • Energization activities
  • Support project handover and close-out activities.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • IEC Standards

  • CIGRE Guidelines
  • Utility specifications
  • Grid code requirements
  • Local electrical regulations
  • Follow company QA/QC procedures.
  • Participate in design audits and technical reviews.
  • Ensure adherence to HSE requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in EHV/HV substation design engineering within a consulting environment, with ETAP Certification and Chartered Engineer preferred.
  • Proven experience in transmission and substation engineering projects.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary project coordination.
