Job summary

Actemium India in Karnataka seeks a Substation Design Engineer with 4+ years in substation design to deliver primary engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects. Proficiency in MicroStation or AutoCAD and knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards are required.

You will prepare layouts, BoM, and assist in tender support, site visits, and customer reviews, ensuring technically compliant and competitive offers while coordinating with cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Prepare all Primary Engineering Deliverables for AIS & GIS projects
• Design electrical substation facilities including site and bus work layouts, earthing, foundations, controls & protection, metering, and equipment drawings
• Prepare substation layouts and section drawings for budgetary offers / tenders / projects
• Understand secondary design aspects of substations (CT VT Sizing, Protection & Control schemes, Interlocking, Telecommunication)
• Understand auxiliary design aspects (LVAC / LVDC, Cable sizing, Battery & Battery Charger sizing)
• Prepare, review and validate Bills of Material for tenders or projects
• Perform design calculations related to Primary Engineering
• Grounding system design and BoM
• Lightning system design and BoM
• Verify technical data sheets for primary equipment (circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, transformers)
• FAT / SAT of primary equipment as needed
• Obtain customer approvals for designs and drawings
• Participate in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications
• Support estimation with conceptual drawings, inquiries, vendor offers, tender evaluation
• Site visits for tender support as required

Job description

• Preparation of all Primary Engineering Deliverables. Experience in handling complete Engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects, Exposure to International experience & Standards IEC, IEEE.
• Design of electrical substation facilities including site and bus work layouts, earthing, foundations, controls & protection, metering, and equipment drawings for projects.
• Substation layouts and section drawings preparation for budgetary offers / tenders / projects based on customer specification.
• Basic understanding of secondary design aspects of substations, such as CT VT Sizing, Protection & Control schemes, Interlocking, Telecommunication, etc.
• Adequate understanding of auxiliary design aspects of substations, such as LVAC / LVDC supplies, Cable sizing, Battery & Battery Charger Sizing, etc
• Prepare, review, and validate Bill of material for tenders or projects based on requirement.
• Responsible for all design calculations related to Primary Engineering.
• Grounding system design, drawings, and Bill of Materials.
• Lightning system design, drawings, BoM and Lighting system design and BoM.
• Technical data sheets verification of primary equipment. Knowledge of primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc
• FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed.
• Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawings.
• Take part in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications.
• Estimation support such as preparing conceptual drawings, sending enquiries, getting technically compliant and competitive offers from vendors, offer evaluation at tender stage.
• Site visit for tender support as and when required.

Qualification, Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Exp 4 to 12 years (Minimum 4+ years exp in substation design)
• Proficiency in required CAD design tools (MicroStation / AutoCAD), Knowledge of relevant international standards ex: IEEE, IEC etc.
• Broad understanding of Protection and Control (P&C), SAS / SCS / SCADA, Metering, Telecom, Tele-protection.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships.
• Working hours’ flexibility to meet deadlines.
