Job summary

Technomech Placements seeks a Buyer – Powertrain to lead EV powertrain procurement in Pune, scouting technologies, managing suppliers, quoting costs, and nominating suppliers per VW Group standards while driving cost optimization across the project lifecycle.

The role requires 3–10 years in automotive procurement, a B.Tech in a relevant field, and strong negotiation, analytical, and MS Office skills. You will coordinate across R&D, logistics and quality teams to ensure timely delivery.

Qualifications

• B.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile or Electrical preferred.
• 3–10 years automotive procurement experience.
• EV powertrain knowledge desirable.

Responsibilities

• Scout new EV powertrain technologies and evaluate potential suppliers.
• Monitor raw material trends and track costs.
• Prepare cost comparisons and sourcing presentations for committees.
• Identify suppliers and prepare bidder lists; release RFQs, evaluate offers, and negotiate.
• Issue procurement contracts, LOIs and nomination letters; support supplier escalations.
• Ensure capacity planning to meet production targets.
• Conduct yearly price negotiations and settlements.
• Drive cost reduction through value engineering and global sourcing.
• Monitor raw material and forex trends; support QMS/EMS implementations.

Job Opening: Buyer Powertrain (EV Focus)

Location: Pune

Education: B.Tech (Mechanical / Automobile / Electrical preferred)

Purpose of the Position

We are seeking a Buyer – Powertrain to lead procurement activities for EV powertrain components. The role involves market scouting, supplier portfolio management, cost evaluation, sourcing, and supplier nomination. You will ensure procurement processes align with VW Group standards while driving cost optimization across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Series Activities

• Scout new technologies in EV powertrain and evaluate potential suppliers.


• Monitor raw material trends and track costs.


• Evaluate and agree on real project costs (VSI).

Sourcing Activities

• Identify suppliers and prepare bidder lists.


• Create and release RFQs, evaluate offers, and conduct negotiations.


• Prepare cost comparisons and sourcing presentations for committees.


• Issue procurement contracts, LOIs, and nomination letters.


• Support supplier escalations across R&D, logistics, and quality.

Series Activities

• Ensure capacity planning to meet production targets.


• Conduct yearly price negotiations and settlements.


• Drive cost reduction initiatives through value engineering and global sourcing.


• Monitor raw material and forex trends.


• Support QMS/EMS implementation and compliance.

Tooling & Change Management

• Manage tooling fund requests, procurement orders, and GRNs.


• Evaluate and negotiate change requests (AEKO, AeA, MY Point).


• Coordinate supplier timelines and implementation.

Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of EV powertrain components and supplier base.


• Expertise in procurement processes, commercial/legal terms, QMS, EnMS.


• Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.


• Reliability, flexibility, and assertiveness.


• Proficiency in MS Office and procurement systems (SAP, TEVON, EBON, K-SRM).

Desired Candidate Profile

• 3–10 years of experience in automotive procurement, preferably EV powertrain.


• Hands-on experience in supplier negotiations and cost optimization.


• Ability to manage cross-functional escalations and align with global procurement standards.


• B.Tech degree with strong technical understanding of powertrain components
