Job summary

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day powder coating and paint shop operations.

• Set and monitor parameters like pretreatment concentration, temperature, conveyor speed, coating thickness, and curing time/temperature.
• Ensure proper powder application and uniform finish on sheet metal and fabricated components.
• Identify and troubleshoot defects such as orange peel, pinholes, adhesion issues, and color variation.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Stores, and PPC teams.
• Maintain equipment operation and preventive maintenance of paint shop machinery.

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Powder Coating Engineer with 5-7 years of relevant experience in a paint shop environment. The candidate will be responsible for managing powder coating operations, ensuring consistent coating quality, optimizing the coating process, controlling rejection and wastage, and maintaining production targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day powder coating and paint shop operations.
• Ensure production targets are achieved as per the planned schedule.
• Monitor the complete powder coating process, including surface preparation, pretreatment, drying, powder application, curing, and inspection.
• Set and monitor parameters such as pretreatment chemical concentration, temperature, conveyor speed, coating thickness, and curing temperature/time.
• Ensure proper powder application and uniform finish on sheet metal and fabricated components.
• Monitor coating thickness, adhesion, appearance, gloss, color, and overall finish.
• Identify and troubleshoot defects such as orange peel, pinholes, poor adhesion, uneven coating, runs, contamination, and color variation.
• Reduce powder consumption, rejection, rework, and material wastage.
• Coordinate with the Production, Quality, Maintenance, Stores, and PPC teams.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of powder coating equipment and paint shop machinery.
• Monitor spray guns, booths, ovens, conveyors, compressors, and related equipment.
• Maintain proper process documentation, inspection reports, and production records.
• Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring quality and process issues.
• Implement 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures and proper housekeeping within the paint shop.
• Train and guide operators regarding process parameters, quality requirements, and safe working practices.
• Coordinate with powder coating suppliers when required for quality or process-related issues.

Candidate Requirements

• 5-7 years of relevant experience in powder coating/paint shop operations, preferably in a sheet metal or engineering manufacturing company.
• Strong practical knowledge of powder coating processes and pretreatment systems.
• Experience with automatic/manual powder coating lines will be preferred.
• Good understanding of coating defects, their causes, and corrective actions.
• Knowledge of coating thickness measurement and basic quality inspection methods.
• Experience in handling shop-floor operators and production activities.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Diploma/B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical, Chemical, Production, or related engineering discipline preferred.
