Job Title: Powder Coating Supervisor
Department: Production – Surface Treatment / Finishing
Industry: Switchgear / Electrical Panels / Sheet Metal / Automotive Components
Reporting To: Production Manager / Plant Head
Job Purpose
To supervise and control the complete pre-treatment and powder coating process for sheet metal enclosures and switchgear panels, ensuring high-quality finish, corrosion resistance, productivity, safety, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Supervision – Pre treatment Line
- Supervise complete spray pre‑treatment system; monitor and control chemical concentration (TA/FA ratio), pH levels, temperature, conductivity, sludge removal.
- Ensure proper phosphating coating weight (g/m²).
- Troubleshoot issues such as poor adhesion, flash rusting, patchy phosphating, oil contamination.
- Coordinate with chemical suppliers for corrective actions.
- Powder Coating Line Supervision
- Supervise electrostatic powder coating booth operations; set and control gun voltage (kV), air pressure, powder flow rate, booth cleanliness.
- Ensure proper curing parameters: oven temperature, dwell time.
- Control dry film thickness (DFT) as per specification (80–120 microns typical for switchgear).
- Monitor first‑pass yield and reduce rejections.
- Handle shade changes and color changeover effectively.
- Quality Control Testing
- Perform and monitor cross‑hatch adhesion test, DFT measurement, impact resistance test, gloss measurement, salt spray test (for corrosion resistance).
- Maintain quality records and inspection reports; ensure compliance with ISO/customer specifications.
- Process Improvement
- Root cause analysis for peeling, orange peel, pinholes, poor leveling, uneven coating.
- Implement corrective preventive actions (CAPA).
- Reduce powder consumption rework rate and improve transfer efficiency.
- Production Management
- Manpower management: supervise line operators and helpers, plan shift schedules, ensure daily production targets.
- Maintain 5S and shop‑floor discipline, safety compliance; ensure safe handling of chemicals, maintain MSDS records, proper ventilation and PPE usage, monitor effluent treatment and waste disposal.
Qualifications
- Diploma / BE in Mechanical / Production / Chemical Engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience in sheet metal industry, automotive component manufacturing, electrical panel/switchgear manufacturing.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a supervisory role.
