Job Overview:

The Plastic Engineer is responsible for managing and monitoring injection moulding production processes to ensure efficient machine operation, optimum cycle time, consistent product quality, and minimum rejection. The role includes machine setup, parameter setting, process optimization, troubleshooting, moulding defect analysis, material handling, and coordination with production and maintenance teams to achieve smooth and efficient manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• 1. Injection Moulding Production & Process Knowledge
  • Ensure proper understanding of the injection moulding manufacturing process.
  • Monitor the complete injection moulding process from material loading to finished product.
  • Ensure proper production procedures and workflow are followed.
  • Maintain awareness of machine, mould, material, and process requirements.
• 2. Machine Operation & Parameter Setting
  • Perform and monitor injection moulding machine setup and start-up activities.
  • Set and monitor machine parameters such as pressure, speed, temperature, and cycle time.
  • Ensure correct machine parameters are maintained as per product and mould requirements.
  • Monitor machine performance during production and take corrective action when required.
  • Work towards cycle time reduction and improved machine productivity.
• 3. Process Optimization
  • Optimize injection moulding parameters to achieve consistent product quality.
  • Reduce cycle time without affecting product quality.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain process standards for different products and moulds.
  • Support continuous improvement activities in injection moulding production.
• 4. Plastic Material Management
  • Maintain practical knowledge of plastic materials such as PP, HDPE, and ABS.
  • Ensure correct material is used as per product specifications.
  • Monitor material loading and changeover activities.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of plastic materials.
  • Coordinate with relevant teams regarding material-related production issues.
• 5. Mould & Hot/Cold Runner Knowledge
  • Understand basic injection mould construction and working.
  • Monitor mould performance during production.
  • Ensure proper mould mounting, setting, and alignment.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of hot runner and cold runner mould systems.
  • Coordinate with mould/tool room team for mould-related issues.
• 6. Quality Control & Defect Troubleshooting
  • Monitor product quality during injection moulding production.
  • Identify and troubleshoot common moulding defects such as short shot, flash, sink mark, warpage, and other defects.
  • Take corrective action by adjusting machine/process parameters.
  • Ensure rejection and defect levels are maintained within acceptable limits.
  • Perform root cause analysis using 5 Why / Fishbone Analysis where required.
  • Ensure first-piece and in-process quality checks are completed.
• 7. Production Monitoring & Coordination
  • Monitor production output, machine utilization, and cycle time.
  • Coordinate with production, quality, maintenance, and tool room teams.
  • Ensure production targets are achieved as per daily production plan.
  • Monitor machine downtime and support corrective actions.
  • Escalate major machine, mould, material, or quality issues to the concerned supervisor/manager.
• 8. Team Guidance & Operator Support
  • Guide machine operators regarding correct machine operation and process procedures.
  • Provide technical support to operators during production.
  • Train operators on basic machine parameters, defect identification, and safe operating practices.
  • Ensure operators follow defined SOPs and work instructions.
• 9. Documentation & Process Records
  • Maintain basic machine and process-related documentation.
  • Record machine parameters, cycle time, production quantity, rejection, and downtime where required.
  • Maintain product/mould-wise process parameter records.
  • Ensure proper handover of production and process information between shifts.
• 10. Maintenance & Safety
  • Monitor machine condition and report abnormalities to the maintenance team.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities as required.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping around injection moulding machines.
  • Ensure safe machine operation and compliance with SOPs.
  • Follow all safety guidelines while working with machines, moulds, heaters, and other equipment.
  • Prevent accidents by ensuring proper safety practices are followed on the shop floor.
