Planning Engineer Roles & Responsibilities (Civil Construction)
A Planning Engineer in the civil construction industry is responsible for project planning, scheduling, monitoring progress, resource planning, and ensuring timely completion of project activities.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop baseline schedules, activity sequences, and work programs.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly work plans.
- Monitor actual site progress against the approved project schedule. Collect daily progress data from site teams.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Plan manpower, materials, machinery, and equipment requirements.
- Coordinate with site, procurement, and stores teams to ensure resources are available as per schedule. Monitor resource utilization and productivity.
- Track planned quantities versus actual executed quantities.
- Coordinate with the Quantity Surveying/Commercial team regarding measurements and quantities.
- Develop recovery plans and revised schedules where required.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Site Engineers, QA/QC, Procurement, Stores, Commercial, and Subcontractors.
- Participate in project review and coordination meetings.
- Follow up on pending activities and critical deliverables.
- Prepare progress reports and presentations for management/client review.
- Submit updated schedules and progress reports as per contractual requirements.
- Maintain proper records of project schedules, revisions, and progress documentation.
- Maintain baseline, updated, and recovery schedules.
- Coordinate upcoming activities with site execution teams.
- Identify constraints such as drawings, materials, manpower, equipment, approvals, and work fronts.
