Role Purpose:
Piping engineer will be responsible for design and detailed engineering of piping systems for water treatment and industrial process plants. The role involves preparation and review of engineering deliverables, coordination with cross-functional teams, vendor interactions, and ensuring that piping designs comply with project specifications, global codes, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the design planning phase, including preparation of project-specific drawing and document lists, Mechanical Design Plans, project report inputs, customer drawing lists, and input lists from internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in project review meetings with project teams and provide updates on design outputs, input requirements, constraints, and potential delays.
- Communicate periodically with project teams regarding exceptions or issues affecting engineering deliverable schedules.
- Attend customer kick-off meetings whenever required.
- Perform design and engineering of water treatment plant piping systems in accordance with international codes, standards, and project specifications.
- Execute piping design and detailed engineering, including 3D model reviews and constructability reviews.
- Prepare Material Requisitions (MR) / Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) for piping bulks and prepare tender documents.
- Review technical aspects of vendor quotations for items released by the Mechanical department.
- Review client tender documents, specifications, datasheets, FEED designs, and engineering calculations.
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as piping layouts, equipment layouts, isometric drawings, piping material specifications, design calculations, and stress analysis inputs.
- Provide engineering inputs and coordination with other disciplines such as civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
- Conduct coordination meetings with electrical and other engineering departments to finalize interface details.
- Participate in design reviews as per ISO procedures and ensure compliance with departmental design processes.
- Manage engineering document control activities, including document releases, tracking returns, SAP uploads, and resubmission of drawings with comment response sheets.
- Address NCRs, RFIs from vendors or customers, and defect notifications from fabrication shops.
- Visit fabrication shops or assembly workshops to resolve engineering issues when required.
- Visit project sites to resolve design-related issues when necessary.
- Coordinate with the piping stress analysis team to ensure analysis recommendations are incorporated in designs.
- Interface with product development teams to align piping designs with project specifications and layouts.
- Review basic engineering inputs provided to the mechanical team within the required timelines.
- Respond to site queries and technical clarifications in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with external design agencies, providing inputs, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring integration with internal designs.
- Review site back charges and document lessons learned for future improvements.
- Support proposal and application teams in engineering estimation, BOQ preparation, and design inputs for FEED or bid stages.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and vendors in English.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong knowledge of piping design and detailed engineering for industrial or water treatment plants.
- Experience working with piping layouts, isometrics, equipment layouts, and piping material specifications.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards related to piping design.
- Experience in 3D model review and constructability review.
- Ability to perform technical bid evaluations and vendor coordination.
- Good understanding of engineering document control processes and ISO procedures.
- Strong coordination skills for working with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Proficiency in engineering design tools and MS Office.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience working on EPC projects such as water treatment plants, process plants, or industrial facilities.
- Exposure to piping stress analysis coordination.
- Experience interacting with fabrication shops and site engineering teams.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP for engineering document management.
- Experience supporting FEED design and proposal engineering activities.
