The Photographer & Visual Storyteller plays a central role in shaping how the AISC story is told—visually, emotionally, and strategically. This role beyond event coverage to focus on story-driven photography, fast turnaround, and creative partnership across the AISC Community.

The ideal candidate is energetic, intuitive, and deeply invested in visual storytelling. They bring a strong point of view, work quickly, and collaborate closely with the Advancement and Communications team to ensure that AISC’s values, learning, and community are consistently and compellingly represented.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Visual Storytelling & Capture

• Capture compelling, story-driven photography across campus life: classrooms, learning moments, events, performances, athletics, and community gatherings
• Focus on people, relationships, and moments—not just activities
• Anticipate moments of narrative value and proactively position for them
• Deliver edited images quickly to support same-day or next-day communications where needed
• Balance fast turnaround with consistent quality and brand alignment
• Work flexibly around school rhythms, including occasional evenings and weekends

Creative Partnership

• Be a thought partner to the Advancement and Communications Teams on visual storytelling approaches.
• Advise on what should be photographed, how, and why—especially for campaigns, recruitment, partnerships, and major milestones
• Support faculty, staff, and students seeking guidance on visual storytelling or photography

Brand & Platform Awareness

• Ensure imagery aligns with AISC’s evolving brand, tone, and storytelling priorities
• Capture with end use in mind: web, social media, print, presentations, campaigns
• Stay current with visual trends, social formats, and storytelling techniques relevant to schools and community-based organizations

Editing, Archiving, & Standards

• Edit and process images using professional workflows
• Maintain organized archives with clear naming conventions and metadata
• Uphold standards for lighting, composition, consistency, and ethical representation
• Maintain equipment and recommend upgrades or enhancements as needed
• Work closely with the Content & Media Manager, the Brand & Design Manager, the Videographer, and external partners
• Contribute to integrated storytelling projects rather than working in isolation
• Engage respectfully and professionally with students, families, faculty, alumni, and visitors

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Proven ability to work quickly without compromising quality
• Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort working in a school environment
• Proficiency with professional camera equipment and Adobe Lightroom / Photoshop
• High level of organization, time management, and self-direction
• Strong command of spoken and written English

Preferred

• Experience with short-form video or hybrid photo/video storytelling
• Familiarity with social media platforms and visual best practices
• Experience working in education, community organizations, or mission-driven environments
• Comfort working collaboratively and offering creative input
• Experience living or working in Chennai or similar multicultural contexts
