JOB DESCRIPTION OF PHELBOTOMIST:-

1. Technical & Procedural Competence:

• Must be proficient with laboratory tests and procedures, including the correct order of draw and handling of specimens.
• Should be tech-savvy and familiar with laboratory software for test requisition and data entry.

2. Patient Interaction & Care:

• Greet patients with professionalism, ensuring a comfortable and reassuring experience.
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.
• Explain procedures clearly and address any concerns the patient may have.

3. Sample Collection & Handling:

• Collect blood samples using aseptic techniques, ensuring minimal discomfort to the patient.
• Verify patient details and match samples accurately to avoid any errors.
• Follow proper labeling protocols by tagging barcodes with the Unique Health Identification Number (UHID).
• Maintain the integrity of samples, ensuring cold chain storage at 2-8C (if applicable).
• Transport and hand over samples to the designated department within the required timeframe.

4. Patient Preparation & Test Instructions:

• Obtain relevant clinical history and record it accurately in the online test requisition form.
• Provide necessary pre-test instructions to patients (e.g., 10-12 hour fasting for lipid profile, urine sample collection guidelines, or special conditions for hormone tests).
• Educate patients about specific test requirements

5. Compliance & Safety Standards:

• Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain hygiene in sample collection areas.
• Dispose of biohazardous waste appropriately as per safety guidelines.
• Report any adverse events, such as patient reactions or sample collection issues, immediately.
