Job description

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood and other specimen samples from patients, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and timely transportation to the laboratory. The requires maintaining accuracy in documentation, following infection control protocols, and providing a comfortable experience for patients across all age groups. The candidate will also assist in basic sample processing, maintain organization of the workstation, and ensure compliance with SOPs and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients using appropriate venipuncture and capillary techniques.
• Ensure proper patiententification before sample collection to avoid errors.
• Label all specimens accurately with patient details, date, and time of collection.
• Select the appropriate method for blood collection based on patient condition and age.
• Collect additional specimens (urine, sputum, etc.) as required.
• Maintain proper documentation of sample collection and patient records.
• Transport specimens safely and promptly to the laboratory for processing.
• Perform centrifugation and basic sample processing when required and permitted.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the phlebotomy station or cart.
• Follow strict infection control and safety protocols during all procedures.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to hygiene standards.
• Handle patients with care, empathy, and professionalism, ensuring comfort during procedures.
