Job summary

METTLER TOLEDO, a global leader in precision instruments, seeks a patent search professional to translate complex science into actionable IP insights for R&D and leadership. You will conduct patentability and landscape searches, delivering clear reports and supporting IP projects.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in patent analysis, strong scientific backgrounds, and experience with IP-management tools. Knowledge of AI tools for patents is a plus.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Translate complex patent and scientific information into practical insights for R&D teams, IP counsels, and business leaders.
• Conduct patentability, freedom‑to‑operate, validity and invalidity, state‑of‑the‑art, and patent landscape searches.
• Monitor technologies and competitors, and communicate findings through clear, intuitive, and visually engaging reports.
• Support product-to-patent mapping, infringement analysis, patent classification, and patent monitoring activities.
• Prepare reliable patent reports and maintain accurate, up-to-date information in internal IP systems.
• Contribute to a range of IP projects, including due diligence, trademark and industrial design searches, and patent illustrations.

What You Need to Succeed

Educational Qualification:

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in physics, chemistry, biochemical engineering, pharmaceutical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline. Candidates with comparable technical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Technical Skills:

• Typically, 2-5 years of relevant experience in patent search and analysis. We also welcome candidates with a strong scientific research background or hands‑on experience in patent searching or technology analysis. Your achievements, curiosity, learning mindset, and overall fit matter more than meeting every requirement exactly.
• Ability to understand technical information in areas such as process R&D, process analytical technology, spectroscopy, particle‑size analysis, and the chemical and physical characterization of substances.
• Familiarity with electrochemical, optical, spectroscopic, or other analytical measurement technologies.
• Hands‑on experience to handle professional patent-search platforms and IP‑management software
• Exposure to generative AI tools relevant to patent workflows would be an added advantage
