Qualifications

  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical, Automobile, Production, Chemical or related engineering discipline.
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in automotive paint shop, manufacturing, production or quality; freshers with relevant technical knowledge may be considered.
  • Basic understanding of automotive painting processes, process control and quality inspection.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and basic MIS/report preparation.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, process sheets and work instructions is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control paint shop processes such as pre-treatment, surface preparation, primer, top coat, curing and related operations as applicable.
  • Ensure defined process parameters are maintained, recorded and followed as per approved process sheets, work instructions and control plans.
  • Carry out routine inspection of painted parts for appearance, colour shade, gloss, adhesion, film thickness, defects and other specified characteristics.
  • Identify and control paint defects such as dust, sagging, runs, orange peel, pinholes, blisters, scratches, poor coverage and colour mismatch.
  • Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Stores and other CFT members for timely resolution of process and quality issues.
  • Monitor rejection, rework and repair activities and support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain daily production, rejection, rework, process parameter and quality records and prepare required MIS.
  • Support implementation of Control Plan, PFMEA, SOP/WI, inspection standards and other quality-system requirements.
  • Verify availability and correct usage of paint, thinner, hardener, chemicals and other consumables as per approved specifications and FIFO requirements.
  • Support paint mixing, viscosity control, temperature/humidity monitoring and other applicable laboratory/process checks.
  • Ensure proper identification, segregation and disposition of OK, rejected, rework and hold parts.
  • Support preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of paint shop equipment, booths, pumps, guns, ovens, conveyors and related systems.
  • Monitor oven curing parameters and support periodic verification of curing performance as defined by the process.
  • Participate in kaizen, continuous improvement, cost reduction, productivity and defect-reduction activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, PPE, chemical handling, environmental and housekeeping requirements.
  • Maintain 1S/2S/5S in the assigned area and support audit readiness.
  • Escalate abnormal conditions, repeated defects, process deviations and safety concerns to the reporting manager without delay.

Key Responsibilities

3. Quality & Process Control

  • Perform first-off/start-up and routine process checks as defined by the control plan.
  • Ensure traceability of batches, paint materials, process records and inspection results.
  • Support analysis of customer/internal complaints related to paint quality and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Assist in layered process audits, product audits and internal/external audit compliance.
  • Ensure only approved and released process/material conditions are used for production.

4. Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

  • Follow all PPE, chemical handling, fire safety and emergency-response requirements.
  • Ensure proper storage, labelling and handling of paints, solvents and chemicals.
  • Support compliance with environmental controls for paint booth exhaust, waste, emissions and chemical disposal as applicable.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, spills, leaks and deviations from approved safety practices.

5. Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical, Automobile, Production, Chemical or related engineering discipline.
