About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Engineer Paint Shop to oversee day-to-day activities of the paint shop within the MB/OIV-D department at our Oragadam plant. The role is responsible for delivering flawless top-coat finishes, managing final line-repair processes, optimizing production flow, and driving Lean-based improvement projects while complying with safety, environmental, and Daimler quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Plan, schedule, and monitor paint shop production to achieve daily output and quality targets
- Supervise top-coat application and final line-repair operations ensuring defect-free finishes
- Manage inventory of paints, chemicals, and consumables to prevent shortages
- Support new model launches and special paint projects with technical expertise
Quality & Root Cause Analysis
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for paint defects, bottlenecks, and line-repair issues
- Conduct regular audits of equipment, processes, and environmental controls
- Maintain accurate production records, KPIs, and reports for management review
Continuous Improvement & Lean
- Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement projects to boost efficiency and reduce waste
- Identify and eliminate process bottlenecks in paint shop operations
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams for seamless material and equipment availability
Team Leadership & Safety
- Mentor shop floor personnel fostering a safety-first culture and skill development
- Ensure compliance with HSE, safety, and environmental regulations in manufacturing
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Experience in automotive OEM paint shop production or quality
- Hands-on experience with top-coat painting and final line-repair processes
- Strong knowledge of coating systems, paint equipment, and related SOPs
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement tools
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and paint manuals
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and ERP / production monitoring tools
- Understanding of HSE, safety, and environmental regulations in manufacturing
