Job summary

BT International is seeking a Network Engineering Specialist to lead the design of IP Internet/VPN technologies and to drive automation across BT's global network platforms. You will mentor teams, set architecture patterns, and coordinate with senior stakeholders, resolving complex issues and delivering scalable network solutions.

You will provide thought leadership on Global Reach platforms, lead a matrix team, and ensure timely delivery while collaborating with vendors and internal units.

Qualifications

• Specialist knowledge of IP/VPN technologies and vendors (Cisco/Juniper).
• Experience leading matrix teams to deliver network designs and testing.
• CI/CD principles and tools such as Gitlab are essential.
• Hands-on experience with core routing technologies (IS-IS, BGP, MPLS-VPN).
• Proficiency in QoS, data modelling with Yang, and automation frameworks.
• Experience resolving customer impacting network issues.

What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities

The purpose of the Network Engineering Specialist engineer role is to lead the design of IP Internet/VPN technologies. Specifically, this role is accountable for:

• Design accountability for new features into T International’s network platforms.
• Provide thought leadership to senior internal stakeholders and customers regarding aspects of Global Reach platforms and/or customer solutions.
• Point of contact for technical expertise to senior stakeholders, internal and external.
• Mentor and share knowledge with others and be an advanced user of design tools.
• Create and develop architecture patterns and design techniques for BT and/or customers.
• Lead on resolving customer impacting issues regarding the overall network platform and/or customer solution.
• Solve problems that tend to arise from the interaction of multiple components and usually are complex and unknown related to the overall IP Internet/VPN platform and/or customer solution and involve vendor interworking issues.
• Raise and resolve implementation issues with suppliers and other designers.
• Resolve in-life issues to overall network platform and/or customer solution, as appropriate.
• Lead a matrix team as appropriate within BT International.
• Estimate the time and type of resource needed to support deliverables with increasing cost impact and time duration.

The skills you’ll need to succeed

• Specialist knowledge of IP/VPN technologies and vendors (Cisco/Juniper)
• Specialist knowledge of relevant emerging network/software technologies.
• Experience of leading matrix teams to deliver network designs and testing.
• Software development skills specifically in solving network issues / activities.
• Experience in resolution of customer impacting network issues.
• Prior experience of designing network solutions in a service provider setting.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD principles and tools such as Gitlab is essential.
• Working knowledge of automation test frameworks such as Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and/or Robot Framework is desirable.
• Hand-on demonstratable experience with core routing technologies (IS-IS, BGP, BGP-LS, SR-TE, SR IGP, PCEP, MPLS-VPNs)
• Understanding and hand-on experience with Quality of Service (QoS).
• Expertise in developing frameworks for and automating test cases for systems in production
• Experience with data modelling with Yang (with a vendor neutral landscape in mind)
• Solid experience with gRPC, JSON.
