Job summary

BT Group in India is seeking a Network Engineering Specialist to lead design of IP Internet/VPN solutions within a service provider context. You will drive architecture patterns and mentor teams, collaborating with senior stakeholders across BT International.

You will bring hands-on expertise in routing protocols (IS-IS, BGP, MPLS-VPNs), QoS, and CI/CD practices, and will lead on automation across network platforms to deliver robust, scalable customer solutions.

Qualifications

• Specialist knowledge of IP/VPN in a service provider context.
• Hands-on expertise with routing protocols (IS-IS, BGP, MPLS-VPNs).
• Experience leading matrix technology teams to design and test network solutions.
• Proficient in software-enabled network debugging and automation.
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and related tooling.
• Knowledge of QoS and traffic engineering for large-scale networks.
• Background in automating network tests and using data models (Yang).
• Experience with gRPC and JSON in production environments.

What youll be doing your accountabilities

The purpose of the Network Engineering Specialist engineer role is to lead the design of IP Internet/VPN technologies. Specifically, this role is accountable for:

• Design accountability for new features into T Internationals network platforms.
• Provide thought leadership to senior internal stakeholders and customers regarding aspects of Global Reach platforms and/or customer solutions.
• Point of contact for technical expertise to senior stakeholders, internal and external.
• Mentor and share knowledge with others and be an advanced user of design tools.
• Create and develop architecture patterns and design techniques for BT and/or customers.
• Lead on resolving customer impacting issues regarding the overall network platform and/or customer solution.
• Solve problems that tend to arise from the interaction of multiple components and usually are complex and unknown related to the overall IP Internet/VPN platform and/or customer solution and involve vendor interworking issues.
• Raise and resolve implementation issues with suppliers and other designers.
• Resolve in-life issues to overall network platform and/or customer solution, as appropriate.
• Lead a matrix team as appropriate within BT International.
• Estimate the time and type of resource needed to support deliverables with increasing cost impact and time duration.

The skills youll need to succeed

• Specialist knowledge of IP/VPN technologies and vendors (Cisco/Juniper)
• Specialist knowledge of relevant emerging network/software technologies.
• Experience of leading matrix teams to deliver network designs and testing.
• Software development skills specifically in solving network issues / activities.
• Experience in resolution of customer impacting network issues.
• Prior experience of designing network solutions in a service provider setting.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD principles and tools such as Gitlab is essential.
• Working knowledge of automation test frameworks such as Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and/or Robot Framework is desirable.
• Hand-on demonstratable experience with core routing technologies (IS-IS, BGP, BGP-LS, SR-TE, SR IGP, PCEP, MPLS-VPNs)
• Understanding and hand-on experience with Quality of Service (QoS).
• Expertise in developing frameworks for and automating test cases for systems in production
• Experience with data modelling with Yang (with a vendor neutral landscape in mind)
• Solid experience with gRPC, JSON.
