Job summary

The incumbent will manage safety performance, regulatory compliance with DGMS and Coal Mines Regulations, and coordination with internal departments to sustain high productivity and responsible mining

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mining engineering is mandatory.
• First Class Manager's Certificate of Competency (Coal) issued by DGMS.
• 12–20+ years of experience in open cast or underground coal mining.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and control daily mining operations to achieve production targets.
• Ensure deployment and utilization of manpower, HEMM, and mining resources.
• Monitor drilling, blasting, excavation, loading, transportation, and dumping activities.
• Implement approved mine plans and ensure adherence to schedules.
• Optimize mine productivity while maintaining safety and quality standards.
• Act as statutory Mines Manager under Mines Act and Coal Mines Regulations.
• Coordinate inspections and audits by DGMS and other authorities.
• Lead safety campaigns and ensure compliance with safe work procedures.
• Drive monthly and annual coal production targets; collaborate with planning teams.

Job description

Purpose/Objective

• To lead and manage all mining operations of the coal mine, ensuring safe, productive, environmentally compliant, and cost-effective extraction of coal in accordance with DGMS regulations, Coal Mines Regulations, and company policies.
• The Mines Manager shall be responsible for statutory compliance, production planning, manpower management, safety performance, and overall mine productivity.

Key Responsibilities of Role

• Key Responsibilities Mining Operations Management - Plan, organize, and control daily mining operations to achieve production targets.
• - Ensure efficient deployment and utilization of manpower, HEMM, and mining resources.
• - Monitor drilling, blasting, excavation, loading, transportation, and dumping activities.
• - Implement approved mine plans and ensure adherence to operational schedules.
• - Optimize mine productivity while maintaining safety and quality standards.
• Statutory Compliance - Act as the statutory Mines Manager under the Mines Act and Coal Mines Regulations.
• - Ensure compliance with DGMS guidelines, Coal Mine Regulations, Environmental Clearance conditions, and other statutory requirements.
• - Maintain all statutory records, plans, reports, and registers as required by law.
• - Coordinate inspections and audits conducted by DGMS and other regulatory authorities.
• Safety Management - Ensure implementation of safety policies, procedures, and best mining practices.
• - Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard identification programs.
• - Lead safety campaigns and ensure adherence to safe work procedures.
• - Investigate accidents, dangerous occurrences, and near‑miss incidents.
• - Promote a strong safety culture across the mine.
• Production & Mine Planning - Ensure achievement of monthly and annual coal production targets.
• - Coordinate with mine planning teams for short‑term and long‑term mine development plans.
• - Monitor productivity parameters and implement improvement initiatives.
• - Analyze operational performance and develop strategies for cost optimization.
• Team Leadership - Lead and manage Assistant Mines Managers, Shift Incharges, Supervisors, and contractors.
• - Develop manpower capabilities through coaching, mentoring, and training.
• - Ensure effective contractor management and workforce discipline.
• - Build a high‑performance culture focused on safety, productivity, and compliance.
• Environment & Sustainability - Ensure compliance with environmental norms and approved environmental management plans.
• - Monitor dust suppression, water management, reclamation, and mine closure activities.
• - Coordinate with environmental teams for statutory reporting and compliance.
• Stakeholder Management - Liaise with DGMS officials, State Mining Departments, Pollution Control Boards, and other government authorities.
• - Coordinate with internal departments such as Mechanical, Electrical, Geology, Survey, Environment, and HR.
• - Support smooth execution of mining projects and statutory inspections.
